Day 129

Hey People!

Today I wanted to make a panorama of the city, with a long exposure, so I could get all the car trails.

But  it was difficult because I had to set the camera in bulb mode, which means the shutter is open as long as the button is pressed, and it’s really hard to avoid some motion and staying still for all the time I wanted to leave the shutter opened, so the pictures weren’t coming out very sharp.

In one of my attempts, I accidentally zoomed in with the lens, when that happened I turned off the camera because I thought it was gonna be a bad picture, but then I saw it and I actually liked the effect that the zoom creates in a long exposure.

So, this is the result of my happy accident!

Hola!

Saludos!

Pablo.

  1. So bright! I like the trails of light you got on this – it looks very celebratory!
Do you not use a tripod and timer, Pablo? There have been times when I have been in a great situation without my tripod and I leaned against a wall, held the camera to my left eye with my right arm braced across me and left arm tight to my body then clicked the shutter on a long exhale. It isn’t always successful, but I have had more success with this than just holding the camera regularly.
This reminds me of the shot I took from the dash of my car with an 8 second exposure!

  2. Thank you Cindy!
The funny thing is that actually I used a tripod, but with my camera I can only go to 30 seconds, and I wanted to get one minute, that’s why I used the tripod and bulb mode, I don’t know why I can not stay still, I move a lot and that’s why I didn’t get what I wanted, but I can’t complain with this result 🙂

  3. I really like this picture. It made me immediately think of someone flying and hurling toward that building to save the day. (Yes, I am a bit of a geek.)

  4. Great shot! I enjoy taking photos while zooming in, or out, w/ the shutter open. You should pick up an inexpensive cable release or IR remote; both allow you to set the shutter open as long as you want w/o holding the shutter release. Also, a tripod is necessary, too. I use both items for my longer exposure shots. The remote is simpler to use, but the cable release is perfect for capturing something like fireworks or lightning.
