Day 68

Hello Everyone!

This evening I went to San Jose, the only gothic styled church in Pereira.

I already wrote a post about it before, but it was only in spanish. I want to translate it into english here for all those who weren’t able to read about it because of the language.

This is in my opinion, the most beautiful church in the city, and in christmas it looks even better. It has such beautiful architectonic details in the inside, and also has 48 colorful stained-glass windows, each one tells a story and makes reference to religious facts.

The construction started in 1944, the process was carried out by engineers from Pereira; according to the initial design it has not been finished yet, there are still 2 towers that haven’t been built, but there are no plans to finish it, at least not soon.

The church design is based on “Iglesia del Buen Pastor”, another church located in San Sebastian – Spain; if you look it up on the internet, you will notice that they look very alike, the difference is made by the towers that San Jose is missing.

Earthquakes have made so much harm to the church, all this harm has been minimized in some degree by all the work in modern engineering that San Jose has been getting in order to make the structure more resistant.

If you want to see my old post from the inside of the church, you can click on:

Saludos!

Pablo.

  1. WOW. The architecture, the angle of the shot, the lighting…everything about this is mystical. I love this one, Pablo.
