And today, when we got to my uncle’s house after a long walk and some time swimming in the river, we decided to turn the fireplace on to roast some marshmallows and chill while it stopped raining.
After eating the marshmallows I thought about trying a long exposure of the fire; I’ve already tried it with different things such as water and car trails, but I had not even thought about it with the fire; I decided to give it a try, and this was the result.

Y hoy cuando volvimos a la casa de mi tio después de una larga caminata que incluyó un tiempo en el rio, decidimos prender la chimenea para asar unos masmelos y para relajarnos frente al fuego mientras dejaba de llover.
Después de comer todos los masmelos, pensé en una foto de larga exposición del fuego, ya he hecho largas exposiciones de agua y luces de carro, pero nunca había si quiera pensado en intentarlo con el fuego; lo hice y éste fue el resultado.

I spent the weekend at my uncle’s house with some friends, we just chilled and relaxed after some long weeks of studying.
In one of our walks, we found this old wood door by the river, I liked its color a lot and I was surprised for finding such thing in a really remote place; I’m still wondering why was it there, but I don’t complain, it was a nice find that ended up becoming a photo subject.

El fin de semana estuve lo pasé en la casa de mi tio con unos amigos, descansando y relajándonos tras unas largas semanas de estudio.
En una de nuestras caminatas encontramos esta puerta vieja al lado del rio, me gustó el color y la textura, aunque me sorprendió mucho encontrar un elemento de esos en un sitio tan remoto, pero ese encuentro terminó en una foto.

Today I’ve done something that I’ve already done before, shooting at water droplets, but as I wanted to change a bit I decided to experimented with different backgrounds that were actually cardboard pieces, a lamp to get a different effect and colors, and the remote trigger to get sharper pictures.
For the very first time in my life, more than the half came out well, usually I shoot from 300 to 800 and I get only 5 or 6, but today I shot 55 pictures and I had to choose among 30.
I’m posting more than one, so that you can see what I saw through the camera lens when I shot this kind of pictures.

Hoy estuve tomando fotos de gotas de agua, algo que ya he hecho varias veces; pero como quería cambiar un poco empecé a experimentar con diferentes fondos -que eran en verdad cartulinas de colores-, una lámpara para darle un efecto y un color diferente, y el control para así tener imágenes más nítidas.
Por primera vez, más de la mitad de las fotos que tomé salieron bien y me gustaron; es muy dificil lograrlas, cuando hago estas fotos normalmente tomo entre 300 y 800, pero me salen 6 buenas; hoy tomé 55 fotos y tuve que escoger entre 30.
Aca les dejo más de una foto, para que vean todo lo que una gota de agua forma al caer.

This is today’s shot, yes, I shot it today after turning the computer off and before going to sleep.
I went to the balcony to close the window and then I saw the moon, it was big and beautiful, I stayed there for a while staring at it, and afterwards I kind of realize that I should grab de camera and snap some photos. I did, but as I was to tired I didn’t really bother myself to turn the computer on again and post, I needed to rest after these long 2 weeks.
Here you go with some facts about the moon:
The Moon is about 384.400 kilometres (250.000 miles) from Earth, that means it would take us 130 days travelling by car, 13 hours by rocket and 1,52 seconds by light speed.
The Moon causes most of the tides.
The surface of the moon has many things on it such as craters, lava plains, mountains, and valleys. Scientists believe the craters were formed around 3.5 to 4.5 billion years ago by meteors hitting the moon’s surface.
The Moon’s diameter is 3476 km (2160 miles)
The Moon’s gravity is 1/6 that of Earth, therefore if you weighed 100 pounds on Earth, you would weigh 16.6 pounds on the moon.
Only 12 people have ever stepped onto the surface of the Moon.
The Moon is not a light source, it does not make its own light, it reflects light from the sun.

Esta foto la tomé hoy antes de irme a dormir, cuando apagué el computador cerca de las 2 am fui al balcón a cerrar las ventanas y vi la luna, estaba muy grande y brillante, así que fui a buscar la cámara para tomarle algunas fotos, nunca me habían gustado las fotos que le tomaba, pero en particular esta me gustó. Como estaba tan cansado, en vez de prender otra vez el computador y subirla decidí irme a dormir.
Algunos datos sobre al luna:
La luna está aproximadamente a 384.400 kilometros (250.000 millas) de la tierra, eso significa que ir alla nos tomaría 130 dias en carro. 13 horas en cohete y 1,52 segundos a la velocidad de la luz.
La superficie de la luna tiene muchos cráteres, montañas y valles; los científicos creen que los cráteres se formaron alrededor de 3.5 – 4.5 billones de años debido a choques de meteoritos en la luna.
El diámetro de la luna es de 3476 km (2160 millas)
La luna es la causante de la mayoría de subidas de marea, aunque no de todas.
La gravedad en la luna es 1/6 de la gravedad en la tierra, quien pesa 100 libras aca, en la luna pesaría 16,6.

I found this little ladybug today, and I tried to get close to it, of course it started moving a lot when the camera was close to it but at the end I managed to get some decent focus; actually, in the full resolution picture the lines in its eyes are even visible.
Some curious facts about ladybugs:
A Ladybug can lay up to 1000 eggs in its lifetime
Not all Ladybugs have spots.
In order to not be eaten by predators, ladybugs make and release a chemical that smells and tastes bad.
Many countries consider a ladybug to be a sign of good luck.
The bright colors of Ladybugs warn birds that they don’t taste good.
The spots on a Ladybug fade as they get older.
Some people say that you can tell a ladybug’s age by counting its spots, but that’s not true, the spots have nothing to do with its age.

Hoy encontré esta “mariquita” en el vidrio del balcón, me acerqué para captar algo de detalle, pero mientras más acercaba la cámara, más se movía.
un punto en el que se quedó quieta y logré algún nivel de detalle decente; nunca me imaginé que viéndola a través del lente iba a encontrar tantos detalles en ella, incluso en la foto con toda resolución se alcanzan a ver las lineas de los ojos.
Algunos datos curiosos sobre las mariquitas:
Pueden poner alrededor de 1000 huevos en toda su vida.
No todas tienen puntos.
Para evitar ser comidas por los depredadores, las mariquitas fabrican y liberan un químico maloliente y que sabe mal.
En muchos paises son consideradas como símbolo de buena suerte.
Sus colores brillantes son una alerta para los pájaros, les dice que tlas mariquitas tienen mal sabor y por eso no se las comen.
Los puntos de una mariquita de van desvaneciendo mientras envejecen.
Algunas personas dicen que la edad de las mariquitas puede ser calculada contando sus puntos, pero no es cierto, éstos no tienen nada que ver con su edad.

While I was at my aunt’s house, I saw some elements that I had seen before but I never really paid them any attention, and today they looked different to me, it’s like this project is making me look at things in a different way, I like them because some how they show our arabic roots, and I decided to shoot some photos of them.
I realized that the closer I got to the subject, the better the detail was gonna be, and therefore I shot two pictures and merged them, it’s actually a panorama but not the common one with the landscapes.

Mientras estaba en la casa de mi tia vi algunas cosas que ya había visto antes, pero nunca les había puesto atención; hoy las vi diferentes, creo que este proyecto me hace ver las cosas diferentes y a veces buscar el que creo su mejor ángulo.
Me gustó porque son cosas que muestran algo de la descendencia árabe que tenemos, y además cada uno de los detalles de la decoración de esa cultura me parecen interesantes; mientras tomaba unas fotos pensé en que si me acercaba más, el detalle iba a ser mejor y por eso hice una panorámica con dos fotos de éstos elementos.

I shot this photo in the evening while I was driving with a friend, we set the camera on the tripod in the back part of the car, then I set the bulb mode and shot using a wireless shutter release control while I was driving, the idea was capturing the lights of the city, including the lamps and car trails.
This is the result of today’s experiment, a sort of electriCity.

Esta foto la tomé ahora en la noche mientras iba manejando; puse la cámara con el trípode en la parte de atras del carro, luego activé el modo “bulb” y mientras iba manejando, disparé utilizando un control remoto para la cámara, la idea era capturar las luces de la ciudad, que incluye carros y lámparas.

To me, there is not a better way to finish a hard week like this one than taking photos of birds, that is so relaxing and enjoyable.
Even though I’ve photographed this bird so many times, I don’t get tired of it, every time I see it I find different angles and I find it more and more interesting, it’s an old macaw, it’s losing the feathers on its chest.
I know where it lives, it’s nice to go there and see it, the macaw is usually is in a tree but every time it sees me, it immediately starts to get closer and closer, this guy is not afraid of me or the camera; I want to get really close to it someday and shoot a macro of the patterns of its facial feather pattern -that is as unique as a fingerprint- but I’m afraid it doesn’t react well, they tend to bite when they get annoyed.

Para mi no hay una mejor manera de terminar una semana tan larga y ocupada como esta, que tomar fotos de aves.
Esta guacamaya ha sido mi modelo en muchas ocasiones, pero nunca me canso de verla, siempre encuentro diferentes ángulos y la veo más y más interesante, es una guacamaya vieja, ya está perdiendo las plumas de su pecho.
Yo se donde vive, y me encanta ir a verla, aunque no puede ser tan seguido; usualmente está en un árbol pero apenas me ve, empieza a acercarse rapidamente, es como si hubiera alguna conexión, al menos ya se que no me tiene miedo ni a mi ni a la cámara. Me gustaría acercarme más un día, y lograr un macro de las lineas de su cara, que son únicas como las huellas digitales de un humano, pero cuando se sienten amenazadas suelen ser agresivas y muerden, así que no me atrevo.

Seems like lately I’ve been surrounded by artists, and this time is about my sister.
She was assigned to make a “mandala” a couple of weeks ago, I knew it came out very well and she got a great grade, but I had not seen it until today; my parents were visiting her during the weekend and my dad came back to Pereira yesterday and brought it; I loved it, the figure is really big and has such beautiful details; it was made with paper, wood, sequins, cardboard and even straws; I perfectly understand why she got that grade.
Meaning of “Mandala”: Is a Sanskrit world that means “Circle”. It represents wholeness and can be seen as a model for the organizational structure of life itself; it describes the material and non-material realities, is considered sacred and it’s said that it reveals some inner truth about people and their world.

Ultimamente he estado rodeado de arte y artistas, hoy el turno es para mi hermana.
En la universidad le pidieron hacer un “mandala” hace unas semanas, supe que le había ido muy bien pero no lo conocía hasta hoy, mis papas y mi hermano estaban visitándola este fin de semana ayer lo trajeron con ellos; me encantó, es muy grande, está hecho con carton, papel, madera, lentejuelas y hasta pitillos, los detalles son impresionantes.
Significado del Mandala: Es una palabra sánscrita que significa “Círculo”. Representa la totalidad y puede ser visto como un modelo de estructura organizacional de la propia vida; describe las realidades materiales y no materiales, se considera sagrado en algunas religiones y dicen que revela verdades internas sobre la gente y su mundo.

It’s been a busy day and as I’m still studying for the 3 exams that I have on thursday, I gotta write a quick post.
When I decided to take a break for a while because I got a little tired, I went to the balcony and I saw a really strange cloud, some colors were like reflected on it, that’s what I think but I’m not really sure what it was.
I have no idea what’s that name of this effect or what causes it; I just grabbed the camera and took this photo, which can look pretty weird or even fake, but aside the watermark is straight out from the camera.

Ha sido un día lleno de estudio, y mientras tomaba un descanso en el balcón vi una nube muy rara, habían varios colores en ella, era como si la luz reflejara esos tonos en la nube, pero en verdad no estoy seguro de eso.
No se cómo se llama el efecto, ni qué lo causa, sólo busqué la cámara para captar esto, y aunque se ve muy rara, incluso falsa, es tal cual se veía en realidad.

Orchids come in a big range of colors, including green and even black, but the only color that you will never find in this flower is the blue.
When it comes to the climate, the orchids cannot withstand sudden drops in temperature., that would seem too chaotic for the plant and ultimately lead to its death.
The Orchids can be found in a number of locations such as the Amazon, Australia, China, Madagascar, North and South America, India, the UK, Wales and Europe.
The Orchid is the National Flower of Colombia, the flower is variety Cattleya Trianae which was originally discovered in 1840′s in Colombia.
Colombian orchids often grow along mountain streams are said to be among the most beautiful on earth.

I went to see my friend’s art exhibition and it was pretty cool, her work is amazing, in Day 180 I showed some pictures that I shot for the invite cards, in the second picture of this post you can see how it came out -Sorry, it’s a picture of it, my scanner isn’t working anymore-.
The main photo of this post shows the biggest element in the exhibition, the house was about 1 meter high, big compared to the small ones that you saw in the other post and in the invite card.

Hoy fui por segunda vez a ver la exposición de una amiga, de quien hablé en Dia 180; su trabajo es excelente y el montaje de la exposición fue increible; y esta vez si llevé la cámara!
En el post 180 mostré algunas fotos que tomé ese día para la tarjeta de invitación, pero ninguna de las que mostré era la seleccionada para ser impresa, el resultado final fue la segunda foto de éste post -Es una foto de la tarjeta, mi scanner está dañado-.
La foto principal es del elemento más grande de la exposición; calculo que tiene un metro de alta, y es muy diferente a las que se ven en las otras fotos, especialmente por el tamaño.
La exposición está en el Centro Colombo Americano del centro, y va a estar abierta hasta el primero de junio para quienes estén interesados en verla.

There are days where I feel like everything that surrounds me is nice and can be a great subject, and this is one of these days; I found this necklace at home, not sure if it belongs to my mom or to my sister, but I grabbed it and took it to the dinner table that sometimes becomes my studio; I shot some macros using a close up lens in order to get some bokeh, and this is the explosion of color that I got.

Hay dias en los que muchas de las cosas que me rodean se ven más llamativas para mi, y me imagino una foto cuando las veo, y este es uno de esos dias; hoy encontré un collar y lo llevé a la mesa del comedor, que a veces se convierte en mi pequeño estudio; y con un close-up tomé unos macro para conseguir algo de bokeh; esta explosión de color fue el resultado.

It’s been another long day, but there is nothing to complain at, it’s been a good one.
All of a sudden things have been changing, even the nice weather; we were at my brother’s confirmation and in the very moment we were going out of the church, it started raining extremely hard, it was very windy and there were many thunders as well.
We made it home safe and sound, the church is just 2 blocks away from here, but the city was a chaos, there was no electricity anymore because of the thunders, and it means that the traffic lights stopped working.
That was the perfect opportunity to shoot a long exposure.

Otro día largo, pero ha sido bueno, no hay quejas 
Todo ha estado cambiando de forma repentina, incluso el clima; cuando estabamos saliendo de la confirmación de mi hermano empezó a llover de una forma brutal, el viento soplaba muy fuerte, y los truenos sonaban muy duro.
Alcanzamos a llegar a la casa antes de que lloviera más fuerte; los truenos hicieron que se fuera la luz y el tráfico se volvió un caos en la ciudad.
Es bueno que ayer no haya hecho la foto de larga exposición que había pensado, porque hoy fue la ocasión perfecta.

Today might have been the longest day in this semester; I’ve been awake for so long already, but during the day I couldn’t even grab my camera once; after dinner I had to study, but I spared some time to go out and take a picture; I was planning on shooting a long exposure with the car trails, but when I saw the stars in the sky, I knew I had to try something.
Of course I tried to get some star trails, and I did, but I didn’t expose it for that long because I had to study and this wasn’t shot from home, so the trails weren’t long enough; I ended up shooting a picture in which you could see how the sky looked like tonight.
Okay, enough, I think this day have to come to an end, so, until tomorrow!

Hoy sin lugar a duda ha sido el día más largo de todo el semestre; en todo el día no pude usar la cámara ni una vez, pero por la noche, después de comer y antes de empezar a estudiar de nuevo saqué un poquito de tiempo para tomar fotos.
Estaba pensando en hacer una foto de larga exposición, pero al salir y ver el cielo supe que tenía que aprovecharlo; quería hacer unos star trails, y de hecho los hice, pero como no tenía mucho tiempo, no pude exponerla por el tiempo necesario y las lineas de las estrellas no quedaron tan largas. Terminé tomando una foto más simple, donde se pudiera ver cómo el cielo se vió esta noche.
Bueno, es suficiente, creo que este día debe acabar; hasta mañana!

A good friend of mine asked me to help him with some photos for his photography class; there had to be a lot of action and movement, it was like sorts photography, and as he is a great skater, he already knew the perfect place to make the photoshoot.
We tried different angles and he did different tricks; I think it was quite interesting since I never tried anything like that before. Then I thought about laying down on the stairs to take a photo while he was in the air. This is what I got, actually it was my favorite shot from today.

Um buen amigo me pidió que le ayudara con unas fotos para su clase de fotografía; eran fotos deportivas, y como el es skater, el tema ya estaba dado.
Me pareció interesante, nunca había intentado hacer algo así; intentamos diferentes ángulos, el hizo varios trucos, y en un momento se me ocurrió acostarme sobre las escalas para hacer una toma cuando el estuviera en el aire, y ésta fue la que más me gustó.
Sólo faltan 50 dias para “el gran día”!

I found this little cat today, he was sleeping and I got closer to snap a few photos; while he hears the shutter he started opening his eyes slowly, and then he stared at me for a while, completely still, like a poser; after some minutes, he ignored me and kept on sleeping.
5 facts about cats:
1. When a cat chases its prey, it keeps its head level. Dogs and humansbob their heads up and down.
2. A cat’s brain is biologically more similar to a human brain than it is to a dog’s. Both humans and cats have identical regions in their brains that are responsible for emotions.
3. A cat’s jaw can’t move sideways, so a cat can’t chew large chunks of food.
4. Cats have 32 muscles that control the outer ear, while humans have only 6.

Hoy encontré este gato, estaba dormido y me acerqué; apenas escuchço el sonido del obturador de la cámara abrió sus ojos lentamente, se quedó completamente quieto mirandome un rato, totalemente posudo.
Después de unos minutos, simplemente me ignoró y siguió durmiendo 
.

I’ve ben making the most of this day, my day off of university; I woke up early to get on with work, and wnet out to run some errands; when I was coming back, I saw a road that I had never seen in my entire life, I got curious to see where could it take me and I took it; after nearly 6 minutes of driving, I realized that there wasn’t that much, just a few small houses and a big school at the end of the path; when I turned to get back on my way, I saw this litlle house and I immediately stop, didn’t dare to get closer because there was a big dog barking at me and although I like dogs, I already had a bad experience with them, so I prefered staying away.

Estuve aprovechando mi día libre de clases para adelantar cosas de trabajo, me levanté temprano para salir a hacer unas vueltas, y en el camino de regreso, vi una calle que jamás había visto; me dio curiosidad saber a donde me podía llevar y la tomé.
Después de casi 6 minutos, me di cuenta que no había mucho, sólo unas cuantas casas pequeñas, y un colegio al final del camino; así que me devolví. En ese momento vi esta casa, me gustó, bajé del carro para tomarle algunas fotos, intenté acercarme un poco más pero había un perro muy grande ladrándome; aunque me gustan los perros ya tuve una mala experiencia con uno, y preferí quedarme donde estaba.

Hoy fue un día extremadamente largo y ocupado; universidad, algo de trabajo y muy poco tiempo para tomar fotos, de hecho, es uno de los dias en los que menos fotos he tomado, sólo 3, por suerte una de ellas me gustó.

Walking around I saw a really beautiful flower, don’t know what type it was, but I got close to shoot a macro to capture its detail; but while I was getting close I started seeing something moving on one of the flower’s petals; then I saw this little guy; I never saw an insect like this one, with such pretty colors and contrast between them, and then it made me think that the flower wouldn’t be as interesting as capturing this little guy.

Hoy cuando caminaba en busca de una foto encontré una flor que me gustó, me acerqué para capturar un mejor detalle, y mientras lo hacía vi que algo se movía en uno de los petalos; me acerqué más y vi este pequeño insecto caminando, no se qué tipo de insecto es, pero nunca había visto uno así, con esos colores tan vivos y con un buen contraste entre ellos; eso me hizo pensar que los detalles de la flor ya no eran tan interesantes, y que éste animalito estaba ahí por algo.

This is a pretty old coin, from the vikings era; I got it from a friend of mine in Denmark, he knew that I collected coins from all over the world, and he gave me some that he had kept for a long time; I got them as a farewell gift.
They are a treasure, I keep them in another box separated from the other coins that I have.
There was a time where vikings didn’t use coins based currency like people do nowadays.
Silver was the most common valuable metal used as currency, (they used cattle as well) but it was exchanged by weight than by a preset portion. The Vikings used what they called “portable money”, some kind of “fashion money” that they could wear; therefore silver bracelets were a common way of portable money; they would often cut off pieces of bracelets, necklaces or rings to use them as currency.
Some foreign coins entered the region as a result of trading contacts with western Europe and the Islamic world to the east.; but still, the idea of coinage was unfamiliar. Coins were valued only for their weight in silver or gold, and circulated alongside many other forms of precious metal.
The Viking raids of the ninth century brought the raiders into regular contact with the monetary economies of western Europe.
The reasons for adopting coinage were probably political and cultural as much as economic. Like many ‘barbarian’ invaders, the Vikings looked at the more ‘civilised’ people they had invaded, and wanted to be like them.
Most of the early Viking coin types were imitations of more established coinage.

Esta es una moneda muy vieja, de la era de los vikingos. Es un regalo que me hizo un amigo de Dinamarca cuando iba a volver a Colombia; el sabía que yo tenía una colección de monedas de todo el mundo, y me regaló unas monedas que tenía hace mucho tiempo; son un tesoro, las guardo separadas de mi colección porque no quiero que se confundan entre todas.
Hubo un tiempo en el que los vikingos no usaron monedas basados en una divisa como se hace actualmente; usaban el ganado pero era más común darle uso a la plata que era el metal más valioso, el valor de ésta dependía de su peso.
Los vikingos usaban lo que ellos llamaban “dinero portable”, era simbolizado por algo que ellos pudieran usar, como las joyas; por eso los brazaletes de plata eran un modo común de pagar algo, así como lo eran los collares y anillos, de los que cortaban piezas para usarlas como dinero.
Monedas extranjeras empezaron a entrar a la región como el resultado del contacto comercial con el oeste europeo y el mundo islámico; pero aun así, la idea de una moneda era poco familiar.
Los asaltos de los vikingos en el Siglo IX llevaron a que los asaltantes tuvieran contacto con un sistema monetario; y tal como hicieron los bávaros, los vikingos empezaron a mirar a las poblaciones más civilizadas que ellos habían atacado para así aprender algo de ellos; todo ésto llevó a que pudieran establecer su moneda, que en un principio fue una imitación de otra más establecida.

Before going to sleep today, I shot a couple of pictures of the city, but I decided to blur it in order to get some bokeh, which is the blur or the quality of the blur, in out-of-focus areas of an image.
The term comes from the japanese word “boke” which literally means blur.
I wanted to experiment a bit with the zoom ring, and after shooting a couple of pictures blurring the city; I decided to see what could I get if I started zooming in and out, and this is what I got; simple but I liked it, it reminded me on solar system.

Esta madrugada tomé unas fotos de la ciudad, pero fueron tomas diferentes, todas desenfocadas a propósito, ¿Para qué? simplemente para conseguir un bokeh.
El bokeh es el desenfoque de algunas areas de la imagen.
El término viene de la palabra japonesa “boke” que significa desenfoque.
Quería experimentar un poco con el anillo del zoom, después de tomar unas fotos de bokeh comunes, empecé a mover el zoom mientras el obturador estaba abierto para ver que podía lograr, y este fue el resultado; una foto simple, pero me gustó, de cierta forma me recordó el sistema solar.

This is one of the species of heliconias, a flower that can be found in the tropical forests; they are also known as false birds of paradise because of their similarity to the birds of paradise.
Their name is derived from the Greek word “Helikonos”, there are about 100 to 200 different species of this flowers that are native to the tropical forests in South America, Mexico, the Pacific Ocean and the west of Indonesia.
These herbaceous plants range from 0.5 to 4.5 meters tall depending on the species; their leaves range from 15 to 300 cm.
If you look at it, you will see that the sky is reflected on the water drops that are on the flower.
Wanted to dedicate this post to some the people, who made me change my opinion about flowers being a boring subject, their flower shots are so colorful and detailed; thanks Cyndi, Melanie, George and Pix!

Esta es una de las tantas especies de heliconias, una flor que puede ser encontrada en los bosques tropicales de Sur América, México, islas del pacífico y el oeste de Indonesia.
Hay entre 100 y 200 especies diferentes de Heliconias y la mayoría de ellas se encuentran en regiones húmedas; es muy normal ver éste tipo de flores creciendo a la orilla de un rio, bosques tropicales donde entra muy poco el sol, y hasta en las orillas de muchas carreteras.
La planta donde crecen está entre los 0.5-4.5 metros de alta dependiendo de la especie, mientras que sus hojas varían entre 15 y 300 centímetros.
Si miran la foto cerca, van a ver que el cielo está reflejado en las gotas que están sobre la flor.

“Casa inclinada” is the name of this place, and it literally translates “Inclined house”.
This is a house that a friend of mine bought for her studio, she s an artist, she is the one I helped with some photos for her exposition some days ago, and today I spent part of the day in this place, taking some photos of her because in a couple of days she will be in some newspapers and she wanted me to be her photographer again.
That was the only cool thing I did today, aside that, it was just studying.

“Casa inclinada” es el nombre que una amiga le puso a la casa que compró para poner su taller, ella es una artista, es la que hace las esculturas en cerámica que alguna vez mostré aca en el blog; hoy pasé un buen rato en su nuevo taller tomándole unas fotos porque en unos dias, va asalir en unos periódicos debido a su exposición, y ella quiso que yo fuese quien las tomara.

I think there is something to photograph every day, no matter if we are running out of imagination to compose something, there is at least one thing that crosses our path.
My mom found this little guy in my brothers bedroom; I’m pretty sure she wasn’t quite happy with her finding, but it was nice for me, as soon as I saw it, I love its colors and decided to make him my today’s photo.
Some facts about moths:
Moth antennae are either feather or hair like filament; they have hairy bodies to keep their body temperature necessary for flight.
Only a few moths fly during the day time.
The “Luna Moth” is born without a mouth, never eats or drinks.
Moths can navigate by the stars.
Their wing veins are a good way to identify the specie, it would be like finger prints in human beings.
Moths can see ultra-violet light.

Todos los dias hay algo para fotografiar, aun si se está teniendo un día en los que la imagiación para hacer composiciones es escasa, algo aparece en el camino.
Hoy mi mamá encontró esta polilla en el cuarto de mi hermano, en verdad no creo que le haya gustado mucho haberla encontrado por su reacción, pero para mi fue algo bueno, me gustaron sus colores, y decidí convertirla en mi foto de hoy.
Algunos datos sobre las polillas:
Las antenas de las polillas son parecidas a las plumas o al pelo; además sus cuerpos son cubiertos de pelo para que puedan mantener el calor corporal.
Sólo unas polillas vuelan durante el día.
La polilla “luna” nace sin boca, nunca come o toma nada.
Las polillas pueden volar guiándose con las estrellas.
Las venas de sus alas son una buena forma de identificar su especie son como las huellas digitales en los seres humanos.
Las polillas pueden ver la luz ultravioleta.

I’m back in Pereira, it was a nice trip in company of nice people; I didn’t take as many photos as I wanted, time wasn’t enough, but I’m happy with the ones I got.
I have said several times that here in Colombia, there are lots of fruits and you can get them everywhere for a low price; today on our way back from Medellín, I found this store, it caught my attention because of all the colorful stuffs there; I made my dad stop close by, I couldn’t pass that opportunity up.

Ya estoy de regreso en Pereira, fue un buen viaje con muy buena compañia; no tomé tantas fotos como esperaba, pero quedé contento con las que tomé.
Ya he dicho muchas veces que en Colombia se encuentran frutas frescas todo el año, en todas partes y muy baratas; hoy en el camino de regreso encontré esta tienda, y de inmediato me llamó la atencion por toda la variedad de colores que hay en ella; le dije a mi papá que parara para poder bajarme a tomarle algunas fotos, no podía dejar pasar esa oportunidad.

Walking in the streets of Medellin you find endless things to shoot at, nice buildings, trees, nature, birds, colorful stuffs, architecture and so on; but there is something that I’ve always loved about the city, and it’s about the buildings, the design is simple and elegant at the same time, they got so many details that not everyone appreciate.
I used the reflective glass on one of them to reflect another building.
To be honest, I didn’t have enough time for being out shooting photos, but I made the most of the few time that I had.
Check out my last post, day 200, I added a new photo of the stone, the place where I shot the panorama from; and also in day 199 added a new photo from Medellín.

En las calles de Medellín hay infinitas cosas a las que se les puede tomar fotos, edificios, árboles, naturaleza, arte, gente, entre otras; pero hay algo que siempre me ha gustado de la ciudad, y es el diseño de muchos de sus edificios, es simple pero a la vez muy elegante y lleno de detalles que no muchos llegan a ver.
Para esta foto, utilicé los vidrios reflectivos de uno de ellos para reflejar otro edificio que se encontraba un poco lejos, y éste fue el resultado.

I made it to day 200!
First of all, thanks to everybody for the support and for all the likes, nice comments and critiques; I really appreciate it.
I had something planned for this day but it was something I could only do in Pereira, and as I am away, I had to find something else.
I visited a place that I only knew through photos, I had wanted to visit it for so long, and finally this day came; it is for sure one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been to.
El Peñol is a small town, one and a half hours away from Medellin, they have a big stone, one of the biggest ones in the whole world, and you can go to the top.
The way to get up there is pretty tough, but after more than 720 stairs (I lost the count) you get to see such a magical view, green-emerald lakes, forests and islands compose this awesome landscape.
The rock, called “Piedra del Peñol” has 185 cubic metres of rock mass and it is 385 metres long, with an approximate weight of 11.000.000 tons. It has some rock breaks, one of which was used for the construction of the stairs; a viewing spot was built on top of the rock, there it’s possible to buy handicrafts and postcards; from this viewing point is possible to see the 500 km shore-perimeter dam.
In the 1940s, the Colombian government declared it a National Monument.

Llegamos al día 200!
Primero, quiero agradecerles a todos por sacar algo de tiempo para ver las fotos, leer, comentar, criticar y/o sugerir algo, signidica mucho para mi.
Para el día 200 tenía algo planeado, pero ese algo sólo lo podía ahcer en Pereira, no contaba con un viaje a Medellín, entonces me tocó buscar algo más.
Fui a uno de los sitios más bonitos que alguna vez he visto, siempre lo veia en fotos y moría por ir, hasta que hoy fui a conocerlo.
El Peñol es un pueblo pequeño a una hora y media de Medellín, hay una piedra muy grande, una de las más grandes del mundo, y se puede llegar a su cime.
La subida es dificil, pero después de más de 720 escalas (en algún momento perdí la cuenta), se llega a una especie de plaza en la cima de la piedra, y la vista es simplemente espectacular; lagos de color esmeralda, islas y bosques son lo que componen ese paisaje.
La piedra del Peñón tiene 185 metros cúbicos de masa, su longitud es de 385 metros y pesa 11.000.000 de toneladas.
En una de las particiones que tiene la piedra se construyeron las escaleras, y en la cima se construyó un mirador que tiene una tienda de artesanias de la región; de éste mirador, se pueden ver las rivieras de los 500 kilómetros de represa.
Fue declarado monumento nacional en 1940.

After a long journey we made it to Medellin, the second biggest city of Colombia, and my favorite one!
The population is about 2.7 million people, it’s located in the Central Anden mountain range at a height of 1,538 meters above sea level.
Medellín was once known as the most violent city in the world, because of the urban war that was set off by the drug cartels in the 80′s, but fortunately, the government of the city has invested a lot in education and have tried their best to attack the problem, and things have changed, between 2003 and 2006 more than 3000 armed men gave up their weapons. Nowadays the city is safe and modern, it’s known by its cultural encounters, the warmth of its people and the nice views accompanied by the blue skies with amazing sunsets; because of it’s weather is know as “The City of the Eternal Spring”.
There are lots of different things going on because the art is supported here, there are so many cultural centers, museums, and also parks where people go to make picnic, ride a bike, do juggling, dance or anything they like.
This guy is a street performer that I found in a traffic light, his work was really amazing; when the traffic light was in red, I grabbed the camera and I liked this shot a lot, it was my favorite from the day.

Despues de un largo viaje llegamos a Medellín, la segunda ciudad más grande de Colombia, y mi favorita.
Está habitada por 2,7 millones de personas y se localiza en el centro de la coordillera de los Andes a una altura de 1538 metros sobre el nivel del mar.
Medellín fue ocnsiderada la ciudad más violenta del mundo debido a toda la guerra que desataron los carteles de la droga en la década de los 80, pero afortunadamente, el gobierno de la ciudad ha invertido en educación y ha hecho un esfuerzo grande para atacar el problema; y las cosas han cambiado para bien, entre el 2003 y el 2006 más de 3000 hombres dejaron las armas.
Hoy en día, la ciudad es moderna y segura; es conocida por la calidez y amabilidad de su gente, su progreso, y por sus cielos azules acompañados por unos espectaculares atardeceres.
Hay muchas cosas para ver en la ciudad, aca el arte es apreciado, hay muchos centros culturales, exposiciones, museos, y también parques donde la gente va a hacer picnics, deporte, montar bicicletas, hacer malabares, bailar, o cualquier actividad que sea de su gusto.
En la foto hay un artista, un hombre que se para en los semáforos para mostrar su trabajo, entretener a quienes pasan por el lugar y así ganarse la vida; cuando el semáforo estaba en rojo cogí la cámara y tomé algunas fotos; entre todas las que tomé, ésta fue mi favorita.

I’m back to small birds today; as I didn’t have class today, I went birdwatching and I got this little guy; a pacific parrotlet.
Their natural habitats are mostly the subtropical forests of the Andean mountains, and in subtropical or tropical dry shrubland.
They are about 12 or 13 centimeters long, and weigh 30 grams approximately; these birds are supposed to live almost 30 years.
This kind of parrots are very territorial, is not recomended having more than a pair in one cage, they usually don’t get along well with other animals, including other species of parrots.
Celestial parrotlets eat mostly seeds, but they also like fruits and vegetables.
I’m not sure if I’ll be able to post in the next couple of days, because I’ll be traveling and I’m not really sure if I’ll have the time to post or access to a computer, but I’ll try my best to post; other wise, I’ll be back on tuesday.

De regreso a las aves pequeñas! Como hoy no tenía clase, fui a buscar pájaros y encontré este, el loro celestial.
Sus habitats naturales son los bosques tropocales o subtropicales de los Andes, y las regiones áridas.
Miden entre 12 y 13 centímetros, pesan aproximadamente 30 gramos y se dice que pueden vivir hasta 30 años.
Son aves muy territoriales, y no es recomendable tener mas de una pareja en una sola jaula, pues nos e llevan bien con otros animales, incluyendo otras especies de loros.
Estos loros se alimentan más que todo de semillas, pero también les gusta comer frutas y vegetales.
No estoy muy seguro si voy a poder postear en los próximos dias, voy a estar de viaje y no se si tenga mucho tiempo libre o acceso al computador, pero haré todo lo posible; de lo contrario, estaré de vuelta el martes.

Today I captured the reflection of a very quite neighbourhood of the city; what I liked is that it was reflected on something different than glass, the area -which is only one road- got reflected on the car that was parked beside me; and actually like the sort of abstract effect that the car creates, it made me choose this photo over the other ones that I shot.

Hoy encontré un reflejo de un área muy tranquila de la ciudad, a decir verdad, es sólo una calle, no es un sector grande; lo que me gustó es que es reflejo diferente porque fue en un carro y no en un vidrio o un espejo como es común; además, la especie de abstracción creada por el carro me pareció interesante, y eso fue lo que me hizo elegir esta foto entre las otras que tomé.

Today my grandma invited us for lunch, she made one of the most distinctive Syrian dishes, named “Fatti”; it’s made with arabic bread, chicken, meat, rice, curd, almonds and nuts.

Creo que alguna vez había escrito que mis bisabuelos eran sirios, y que me han criado con mucha comida árabe.
Pues bien, hoy mi abuelita nos invitó a almorzar, y el almuerzo fue uno de los platos más típicos de Siria, se llama “Fatti”; está hecho con pan árabe, pollo, arroz, carne, cuajada, almendras y nueces.

Today, when I was about to leave for the gym, the doorman told me that there was a package for me; I was expecting to get a new lens cap, I took the package and I saw it was from Denmark.
Lens cap? It will never arrive, I ordered it almost 2 months ago and it never came nor will come; instead, I got something better, a gift from my Danish mom, she went to Gambia a couple of months ago and bought this for me; she knows me very well, she knows I love postcards and key chains, they all are important part of my room, if you see day 181 you will understand why, just look at my wall, and those things hanging from the ceiling arte key chains from different countries.
I went to work out for a while and came home to write to her, I wanted to thank her for what they sent to me, and I wanted to talk to her, it had been a long while no hearing her voice, I was nervous when I called, but then I got really happy, it was nice talking to her, knowing that up there at home they are doing fine and they all are healthy, we promised talking more often, I’ll try calling at least once a week, I don’t wanna lose contact with them.
To me, the gift wasn’t just the package I got today, what I consider a gift is that some day our paths crossed and that gave me the chance of having in my life another mom, and another family that I can always rely on.
I miss you Mette, Hans Christian and Theis.

Hoy cuando salía para el gimnasio recibí un paquete; desde hace un tiempo estaba esperando una tapa nueva para uno de mis lentes, cuando lo miré, vi que el paquete venía de Dinamarca.
Tapa de lente? No, la pedí hace casi dos meses, nunca llegó ni llegará; pero recibí algo mejor, un regalo de mi mamá de Dinamarca. Ella estuvo en Gambia hace unos meses y compró algo para mi; me conoce muy bien, sabe que los llaveros y las postales me encantan, y que con todo eso decoro mi cuarto (En day 181 pueden ver la pared llena de fotos y postales, y lo que cuelga del techo son llaveros que he conseguido de diferentes partes del mundo).
Fui a hacer ejercicio un rato, y vine a la casa rápido para escribirle, para agradecerle por lo que me había enviado, por sus palabras en la postal y en la carta y por haber tenido ese gesto tan bonito, también quería llamarla, pero me asustaba un poco, porque aunque nos escribimos mucho, no hablamos tan constantemente, pero lo hice, y el susto se fue despues de escuchar su voz.
Fue perfecto haber hablado con ella, saber que todos están bien en mi otra casa; nos prometimos hablar más seguido, al menos una vez a la semana.
Para mi, el regalo no fue lo que recibí hoy, el verdadero regalo es que nuestros caminos se hayan cruzado y así la vida me haya dado otra familia en la que también puedo confiar.

I decided to take a photo of it, including the silhouettes of some stuffs that are on the top of the building in front of.

Este ha sido un buen fin de semana, y un día relajante para descansar y pasar tiempo con amigos.
Siendo sincero, no hay mucho que decir, no he hecho casi nada interesante, tomé algunas fotos, y al final del día, me asomé a la vnetana y vi que parte del cielo “estaba en llamas” completamente rojo; saqué la cámara y decidí incluir la silueta de algunas cosas que están en la parte de arriba del edificio del frente.

This might not be the most artistic photo that I’ve taken, but to me is meaningful.
We went to this place today, it’s a new public school built by the government, the school is huge, there are 1490 kids studying there and they have a nice library, big classroom with excellent light conditions, labs and a good informatics room.
I went with my grandma and my mom, we were gratefully received by the school band; people were greeting us and thanking us for being there, to be honest it was kind of scary, I’m not really used to it.
Afterwards, we were taken to the library, where they were holding a class, the kids clapped their hands when we went in; I was surprised, kind of embarrassed too, I didn’t know what to do aside smiling.
They were grateful because we donated books for their school, the kids were very happy, those kids really seem like they wanna learn something and the books are a good way to do so; they told us many things to express us their gratitude.
We took a tour around the school, the director wanted to show us the whole building, it was big, maybe in the picture it looks like a normal structure, but I’m sure that is one of the biggest schools I’ve been to. I liked it, every time we passed by the guys and kids that study there, we received a smile or a greeting.
The school was named after the man who was consider the most intelligent man in Pereira, the man who loved the most this city and the only one who wrote its story; he was a writer, a historian and a sports man who got many prices for his work, not only in Colombia but in other countries.
He used to say that this country was going to progress only when the government invested more money in education, I think the same as him.
Unfortunately the 16th of march f 1999 he died of lymphatic cancer.
I’m sure he would have been very proud and felt way honored seeing that a school was named after him, he would have enjoyed visiting it, talking to the students, to the teachers, tell them about him, about how hard his childhood had been like and how that made him stronger. He was someone to feel proud of, he was someone I love and miss, my grand father, Hugo Ángel Jaramillo.
This photo means a lot to me because it’s a place in which he is alive every day, where he is mentioned and where people actually know what he did, and appreciate it.

Esta podrá no ser la foto más artística que he tomado, pero es una de la que más significado tiene para mi, y para mi familia.
Hoy fui a este lugar, es un colegio público muy gande y nuevo, construido por el gobierno y la alcaldía, en él estudian 1490 niños y allí tienen acceso a una buena biblioteca, salones amplios y bien iluminados, laboratorios y una sala de sistemas.
Fui con mi mamá y con mi abuela a donar unos libros para la biblioteca, nos recibieron muy agradicidos con la banda de música del colegio, la gnete nos saludaba y nos agradecía por estar alla, para ser honesto, se sentía algo raro porque nunca he estado acostumbrado a eso.
Un rato después fuimos a la biblioteca, en ese momento había una clase, y apenas entramos, los niños empezaron a aplaudirnos, fue una sorpresa muy grande, hasta me dio pena, no sabía que más hacer a parte de sonreirles.
Estaban muy agradecidos por los libros y nos lo hicieron saber todo el tiempo.
Conocimos todo el colegio en sus diferentes niveles, en la foto puede no verse tan grande, pero puedo decir que es uno de los colegios más grandes que he visitado. Me gustó, y me gustó también la actitud de su gente, cada vez que alguien pasaba cerca a nosotros, recibiamos un saludo y una sonrisa.
El colegio recibió su nombre en honor a un hombre que fue considerado como el hombre más inteligente de Pereira, el que más la quizo y el único que escribió su historia; un escritor, historiador y deportista que le dió a la ciudad muchas medallas y premios por su trabajo en cuanto a la literatura, y no solo en Colombia sino en otros paises de Latinoamérica.
El decía que Colombia sólo iba a progresar cuando se invirtiera más plata en educación, y la verdad, yo pienso igual.
Desafortunadamente el 16 de marzo de 1999, un cancer se lo llevó. Estoy seguro que el habría estado muy orgulloso de ver un colegio que llevara su nombre; habría disfrutado ir a concerlo, caminarlo, hablar con los profesores y con los estudiantes, contarles sobre la niñez tan dificil que tuvo, y como ésto lo hizo más fuerte y lo hizo salir adelante.
Era alguien para sentirse orgulloso, era alguien que amo y que extraño, mi abuelo, Hugo Ángel Jaramillo.

Ha sido un día largo y lleno de clase, estuve en la universidad casi todo el día y no tuve casi tiempo para tomar fotos, pero el poquito que tuve lo aproveche , me fui a caminar para ver qué encontraba, la universidad estaba algo vacía, no había mucha gente y no estaba pasando nada interesante.

The good thing about living in this country is that you don’t need to have seasons to get to know the snow, the flowers, and the leaves on the floor; Colombia has lots of things, specially flowers.
This country is the second largest flower exporter in the whole world; it’s estimated that 450 million flowers are exported only for Saint Valentine’s Day, the flower growers say that 12% of their sales come from Saint Valentine, and the place where they export the most is the United States.

En Colombia no tenemos estaciones, por lo tanto no tenemos una primavera como tal; la ventaja de vivir en un país como éste, es que no se necesitan estaciones para conocer la nieve o ver flores.
Colombia tiene muchas cosas, una de ellas son las flores; es el segundo exportador más grande de ellas en todo el mundo; se estima que sólo en el día de San Valentín se exportan unas 450 millones; los floricultores dicen que sólo ese día representa un 12% de sus ventas, y su mejor comprador es Estados Unidos.

I’m pretty sure a broken mirror is not gonna give me seven years of bad luck, I’m not that pessimistic and I don’t believe in such things; the only thing this broken mirror has given me so far is today’s photo, a self-portrait; and probably I’ll use some of these pieces to make something for my room
I also wanted to share this; I got an award “The heart on fire award” from Naomi Baltuck, she’s doing a great work in the “Photo weekly challenge” posting amazing pictures and great stories; I enjoy a lot reading her blog because of the way she writes. Thank you very much Naomi, and keep up the great work!
In order to keep the award, you need to share seven facts about yourself; so, here you go:
1. This one fits perfectly with the photo, I’m not a superstitious person, I do not avoid walking under a ladder, looking at black cats, spilling salt, or believe that breaking a mirror is gonna give me 7 years of bad luck; honestly I’ve broken a few in my entire life and so far I haven’t been unlucky.
2. When I was a little kid I used to watch the news instead of cartoons.
3. I don’t get afraid easily, but there is something that freaks me out: An earthquake.
4. I’ve never been a sporty guy. As I’m tall (1,87 cm) I was invited by the basketball trainer of high school to join the team; I went to train with them once and never went back because I didn’t like it; I don’t like football either; I only like tennis and actually, badminton, they are fun although I don’t practice them often. The only thing I do often is working out in the gym, and sometimes riding my bike.
5. I like to read, to write, to observe, to photograph, to think, to listen to music, to dream, to make up stories, to look at the rain, to be alone, to be surrounded by people, the snow, the sun, the colors, the reflections, .. and so on.
6. I like going to bed late, it doesn’t give me any trouble for getting up early; and I don’t nap!
7. I’ve never been the cool or the popular guy, and I don’t want to; I just go my own way

Estoy muy seguro que un espejo roto no me va a dar 7 años de mala suerte, no soy tan pesimista, y para ser honesto, no soy nada supersticioso; lo único que me ha dado este espejo hasta ahora son unas fotos:
Eestuve un buen tiempo organizando las piezas hasta llegar a una forma que me gustara, y luego empecé a experimentar con diferentes ángulos y cosas a reflejar, pero ésta fue mi elección, un autoretrato.
Posiblemente las piezas del espejo roto sean útiles más adelante para hacer algo en mi cuarto; un mosaico o un cuadro; cuándo tenga algo listo les cuento

This is the result of a new experiment with water and light, I used a close-up lens to get the selective focus; this is hand-held and got it using just manual focus.

This is today’s sunset; it was spectacular. It’s a shame that I could not appreciate it as much as I wanted because I was in a friend’s car and he was driving in the opposite direction, so all I could do was shooting the picture out of the sunroof of his car.
When I saw it in the camera, I realized that I captured part of the car, and I thought about making a crop in order to get that out of the picture, but when I saw it in the computer screen, I liked the sky and part of the street lights reflected on it, so I decided to keep it; I also liked the silhouettes of the different elements of the city in this shot.
The colors on the sky were spectacular, this is how it looked like, aside the water-mark, this is straight out of the camera.

Este fue el atardecer de hoy; me gustó mucho que fuera una toma diferente a las que hago siempre, dond eme concentro sólo en el cielo; aca cambia un poco y se ven las siluetas de algunos elementos urbanos.
No pude verlo tanto, iba en un carro con un amigo, y el iba manejando en dirección opuesta; así que me salí por el sunroof y tomé la foto rápido. Cuando la vi en la cámara me di cuenta que había quedado una parte del carro en la foto, pensé en cortarla porque no me gustaba esa parte, pero ya viendo la foto grande el la pantalla del computador, noté que había un reflejo del cielo y de la ciudad en el carro, y decidí conservarlo.
Los colores eran espectaculares, así era como se veía, a parte de la marca de agua la foto es tal y como salió de la cámara.

I got a message from one of my friends on flickr, and he asked me to make a photo with the colors of the Colombian flag; I accepted the challenge and this is the result.
I made it with some colored bottom shot glasses that I found at my grandma’s today, they looked very good and since I saw them I knew I had to use them for a picture.
I used water with colored powder, and then added a bit of altka-seltzer.
The Colombian flag consists of three horizontal stripes. The one in the top is yellow, and is half of the height of the flag; the middle stripe is blue; and the bottom stripe is red, they are each one quarters of the flag.
I have always heard that the yellow means all the richness and the golden we have here; blue makes reference to the sky and the sea, while red is the blood shed during the rebellion against Spain that gave us freedom.
The flag was adopted in 1861.

Hace un tiempo recibí un mensaje de uno d emis amigos de flickr, el me retó a hacer una foto con los colores de la bandera de Colombia, acepté el reto y un tiempo después lo hice, este es el resultado.
La hice con unos vasos de shots con color en la parte de abajo que encontré en la casa de mi abuelita, apenas los vi, supe que tenía que utilizarlos para alguna foto; usé agua, anilina para darle los colores, y le puse un poco de altka-seltzer para crear un efecto diferente.
La bandera de Colombia tiene 3 franjas horizontales; la de arriba es amarilla y tiene el ancho de las otras dos juntas, abajo va la franja azul, y por último la roja.
Siempre he escuchado que el amarillo representa la riqueza y todo el oro que hay en Colombia, el azul hace referencia al cielo y al mar; y el rojo es la sangre derramada en la lucha contra los españoles, la cual nos dio la libertad.
La bandera fue adoptada en 1861.

Today I’m bringing more than one pictures, so that you can see a bit of what I did today.
I had the opportunity to go and see some of the most important coffee fields in my area, they were huge, we saw a lot, but it was a small part of the whole coffee area; I’m very impressed, the landscapes are beautiful, the people who work picking up the coffee beans are probably the nicest and kindest people who I’ve ever got to know, they are always doing their best to make you feel like at home; and they feel grateful if you show any interest for what they do.
I got this chance because my cousin is working on a big project with them, and he took me to take some photos, I shot more than 400 times and the subjects were different, animals, the life in the coffee area, portraits, coffee fields, how the everyday life for these people is like and so on.

Hoy vengo con más de una foto para que puedan ver algo de lo que hice hoy.
Tuve la oportunidad de ir a ver unas de las más importantes fincas cafeteras de Risaralda, el área es gigante, alcancé a conocer mucho, pero aún así, fue una pequeña cantidad de todo lo que hay en cuanto a café en el departamento.
Quedé muy impresionado con los paisajes, son espectaculares, además me gustó mucho ver el proceso de recolección de granos de café. La gnete de la región es super amable, me atrevería a decir que es la gnete más humilde y amable que he conocido, es gente que agradece que alguien se interese por su cultura, el trato que brindan es muy especial y lo hacen sentir a uno como en casa.
Tuve la oportunidad de conocer todo esto porque un primo está trabajando con un proyecto internacional con ellos, y el me llevó para tomar algunas fotos; tomé más de 400 y de cosas diferentes, animales, la vida en la zona cafetera, retratos, animales, casas, arquitectura, y la vida cotidiana de los recolectores de café. Aca les deje algunas.

I’ve got halfway though this project today; this is where the count-down starts.
I didn’t think that this project was going to give the opportunity of getting to know people from all over the world, learning something from them, showing them how this country is like and see the world through somebody their eyes; seriously I’ve learnt a lot.
Although some days I’ve felt desperate because I don’t feel creative enough, I’ve been able to cross something interesting on my way and I haven’t missed one single day; it’s been fruitful and so much fun.
As today is the half of the project, I composed something using the halves of some colorful fruits.
I wanna thank to all those who have taken the time to visit this blog, read my posts, look at the photos, comment, criticize and suggest anything so that I can improve what I do.

Hoy llego a la mitad del proyecto; de aca en adelante empieza la cuenta regresiva.
No creí que este proyecto me iba a dar tantas oportunidades de conocer gente de todas partes, de aprender sobre su mundo y sus estilos fotográficos, de mostrarles éste país y un poco de mi vida, y sobre todo, de ver el mundo a través de sus ojos y lentes.
Aunque algunos dias me he sentido desesperado porque no me siento tan creativo, algo se cruza en mi camino y completo mi tarea, no he dejado de postear ningún día.
Como hoy es el día de la mitad, quería ahcer algo que la representara, pensé mucho en diferentes cosas, pero al final decidí hacer una composición con las mitades de algunas frutas.
Sólo me queda agradecerle a todos los que se han tomado el tiempo para visitar el blog, así sea una vez, de leer los posts, ver las fotos, comentar, hacer críticas y sugerirme cosas para mejorar lo que hago.

This is the final result of what I’ve been doing in the last couple of weeks; painting my room.
All of a sudden I got tired of the white wall and the old painting that was hanging there; I went to the super market to look for a new color and the choise wasn’t hard at all; I knew what kind of green I wanted to have in my room; and today, I finally painted the column with black, I never thought about having anything black in my walls, but people change I think soon I’m gonna go to the super market again to buy white chalk so that I can write or draw on my new black wall

Este es el resultado de lo qué he estado haciendo en las últimas 3 semanas, pintar y re-organizar mi cuarto.
De un momento a otro me cansé del blanco de la pared, y del cuadro que tenía antes, y fui al supermercado a buscar una pintura de un color que me gustara; la decisión fue facil, el “verde biche” siempre me ha gustado y ya sabía que ese era el que quería.
Hoy pinté la columna de negro, nunca pensé que alguna de las paredes de mi cuarto iba a tener ese color, pero quería hacer algo diferente, además tengo planeado comprar tiza blanca para escribir o dibujar en esa columna cada vez que quiera

I met up with a good friend of mine that I had not seen in a while; we used to see each other very often, but unfortunately both of us have been very busy lately and time is not enough, but we talk often and we never lose the contact, which is important.
She is an artist, she makes sculptures; soon she is going to make an exposition of her work and she asked me to take some photos of the sculptures and among them, choose one for the invitation card.
I felt very honored, and I enjoyed working with her, and shooting photos of a different subject, it was challenging but the photos came out very well.
I shot lots of pictures, with different angles, we even made a set-up of a small neighborhood using the houses, but I wanted you all to see the detail of her work; all these pieces are going to be shown in her exposition.

Hoy me reuní con una amiga a la que no veía hacía algún tiempo; antes soliamos encontrarnos mucho, pero debido a que los dos hemos estado ocupados ultimamente ha sido dificil, aunque nunca perdemos el contacto.
Ella es una artista, especializada en escultura; muy pronto va a hacer una exposición y me pidió el favor de tomar algunas fotos, para escoger ent re ellas la foto de la tarjeta de la invitación a la exposición.
Tomé muchas fotos, con diferentes ángulos y detalles, incluso organizamos un pequeño vecindario usando las casas y unas baldosas, pero quería mostrar algo más general sobre el trabajo que Gladys ha venido haciendo desde hace más de un año.
Cuando la tarjeta esté lista, la voy a poner aca para que vean el resultado, y ojalá para que quienes puedan la acompañen ese día.
Fue todo un honor, y una excelente experiencia, pues nunca había trabajado en éste tipo de fotos, y aunque fue desafiante, aprendí mucho.

These are the colors of the Colombian handicrafts; I like how the hand-made things here are so colorful and delicate, you really can notice all the effort made by the artisans to produce such pieces of art.
This is a carpet made with small pieces of rolled cotton fabric jointed with some colorful threads, and as soon as I saw it, I knew it had to be on this blog.

Estos son los colores de las artesanias Colombianas; me gusta mucho como las cosas hechas a mano aca son tan finas y coloridas, se nota todo el esfuerzo y dedicación que los artesanos ponen para producir estas piezas de arte.
Esta es una carpeta hecha con pedazos enrollados de tela de algodón unidos por hilos de colores; y tan pronto la vi, super que tenía que estar en este blog.

I was so amazed with this dragonfly, it looks the same as the one I saw in the Amazon a couple of months ago and it’s color really caught my eye; it made run from one to another place just to get a photo of it, at the end, all the effort was worthy.
Some facts about dragonflies:
They have two sets of wings, but they don’t have to beat their wings in unison like other insects do, their front wings can go up while their backs ones are going down.
Dragonflies flap their wings at about 30 beats per second, while the bee flaps them about 300 times per second.
Excellent and strong fliers, they can loop-the-loop, hover, and fly backwards.
In the stage after the hatching, they are called “dragonfly nymphs”, at that time they live in the water for about a year and they eat tiny fish and pollywogs; after leaving the water and becoming flying insects, they only live for about a month.
When they become airborne insects they catch mosquitoes in the air.
Their natural predators are birds.
Dragonflies are often close to water streams because they lay their eggs on or near the water.
Because of their large eyes, the adult dragonfly can see nearly 360 degrees around it at all times.

Estaba encantado con este animal, una libélula, es igual a una que vi en el amazonas hace unos meses, y su color me pareció muy especial para un animal de estos; me hizo correr de un lado a otro para poder tomar una foto desde el ángulo que quería, pero al final, creo que el esfuerzo valió la pena.
Algunos datos sobre las libélulas:
Tienen dos sets de alas, pero no tienen que moverlas al unísono como lo hacen otros insectos, perfectamente pueden mover hacia arriba las de adelante mientras las de atras las mueven para abajo.
Las libélulas baten sus alas aproximadamente 30 veces por segundo, mientras que las abejas alcanzan las 300 veces.
Son fuertes y excelentes voladores, pueden sostenerse en el aire y volar hacia atras.
Después de la etapa de incubación viven en el agua por casi un año, comen pequeños peces y renacuajos; cuando dejan el agua y se convierten en insectos voladores, sólo viven aproximadamente por un mes.
Los pájaros son los predadores de las libélulas.
Se les encuentra cerca de las corrientes de agua porque es ahí donde ponen sus huevos.
Debido a sus largos ojos, una libélula adulta puede ver casi 360 grados .

I’ve been away , enjoying the last days of my holidays and spending time with my cousins; it was nice, quiet and relaxing.
We went for some walks by the river and I had my camera with me almost all the time; we saw lots of nice birds and flowers, and although I’m not much into flowers, I shot lots of photos of them because the variety of flowers in the place where we were is incredible.
This one is called dicentra, is also known as “broken heart”, there are more than 8 species of these flowers and this one isn’t common at all, the most known type of dicentra is similar to this one but is pink.
This flowers are also very attractive to hummingbirds.

Estos dias he estado en otro lugar, lejos del computador y de la tencología, pero no de la cámara He estado disfrutando de mis ultimos dias de vacaciones y pasando algo de tiempo con mis primos.
Estuvimos caminando mucho cerca al rio, vimos muchos pájaros y flores; y aunque las lores no son algo que me fascine, tomé muchas fotos de algunas que me encontré, porque la variedad que hay en el lugar donde estaba era increible.
A esta se le conoce como dicentra, aunque comunmente es llamada “Corazón Partido”, hay más de 8 especies de esta flor, y esta es una de las menos comunes, las otras que son más faciles de encontrar son rosadas.
Estas flores atraen muchos colibries.

Easter means that my cousins come to Pereira to spend their holidays here, and I do not complain at all about that because the time with them is so enjoyable and we have so many laughs together.
This girl that you see here is the same person from day 79, my lovely god-daughter; every time I see her I find her more and more beautiful and smarter, she makes me laugh all the time with her jokes and with all the things she does; today she is turning 3 years old, and I just wish the best for her life, because I love her so much!

I saw this little guy while I was walking, then I started to get closer and he didn’t seem to care much about my presence, that gave me the chance to shoot a couple of pictures of him; suddenly he turned his head 180 degrees and it really amazed me, I was looking through the viewfinder when he did so, I quickly pressed the shutter; I was quite happy with the focus, which is very hard to get right when shooting birds because my telephoto only works with manual focus.

Hoy encontré este pájaro mientras iba caminando. Me empecé a acercar a él, y parecía no molestarle mi presencia, eso me dio la oportunidad de acercarme mucho más y tomarle fotos con mayor detalle.
De repente, el pájaro volteó su cabeza 180 grados, nunca había visto eso, en ese momento sólo pensé en oprimir el obturador rapidamente.
Al final quedé muy contento con el resultado porque alcancé a capturar buenos detalles; tomarle fotos a los pájaros es algo que me gusta mucho, pero aun así es muy dificil porque mi lente solo sirve con enfoque manual y capturar detalles es muy complicado.

Like yesterday, today I’ve been trying to improve my manual focus as well, and I think this is quite a challenging subject because I can stay completely still while holding the camera, but that wouldn’t make any sense if the “model” is constantly moving.
I shot over 60 pictures and ended up choosing this one, because I liked the reflection of the eye lashes on the eye.
Eyes blink over 27,397 times per day.
The shark cornea has been used in eye surgery, since it’s similar to a human cornea.
The pupil can increase its size also under the effect of strong emotions (fear, sexual turn on).
The eyeball of a human weighs approximately 28 grams.
Human eyes can detect 10 million color hues, but cannot see ultraviolet or infrared light.
People blink once or twice at 10 seconds, and a blink lasts 0.3 seconds. In 12 hours, people blink 25 minutes. Infants starts blinking at the age of 6 months.
Eyes are composed of more than 2 million working parts.
An eye will focus on about 50 things per second.
Eyes are always the same size from birth, but the nose and ears never stop growing.

Al igual que ayer, hoy he estado practicando algo de enfoque manual, y creo que un ojo es muy desafiante, porque no depende simplemente de mi, yo puedo tener la cámara completamente quieta, pero eso no sirve de nada si la persona a quien estoy fotografiando se mueve, así se mueva un milímetro el enfoque va a cambiar.
Tomé más de 60 fotos, y terminé eligiendo esta porque me gustó el reflejo de las pestañas en el ojo, además del enfoque.
Algunos datos sobre los ojos:
Un ojo necesita aproximadamente 27,397 parpadeos diarios para permanecer mojado.
La cornea del tiburón ha sido usada en cirugias, pues es muy similar a la cornea humana.
Las pupilas aumentan de tamaño bajo emociones fuertes (miedo, exitación).
El ojo humano pesa aproximadamente 28 gramos.
Los ojos humanos pueden detectar 10 millones de tonos, pero no pueden ver luz infraroja ni ultravioleta.
Los bebes empiezan a parpadear a los 6 meses.
Los ojos se componen de más de dos millones de partes.
Un ojo puede enfocar aproximadamente 50 cosas por segundo.
Los ojos de un humano tienen el mismo tamaño desde el nacimiento, no crecen como la nariz o las orejas.

I’ve been doing some experiments with the close-up lens and the manual focus; as soon as I saw anyone in the kitchen pouring any soda in a glass, I asked to let me take a picture before they start drinking it; some months ago I tried something similar, but today I wanted to get the focus right, get more details and even try to get some bokeh.
This golden explosion is today’s photo.

Hoy he estado experimentando con el close-up y el enfoque manual, para ver que tan buen pulso tengo; no podía ver a nadie entrar a la cocina a servirse un poco de gaseosa porque inmediatamente les pedía que esperaran un momento antes de tomar; hace algunos meses intenté una foto parecida pero hoy quería tener un enfoque mucho más preciso, más detalle e incluso algo de bokeh.

Red Bull gives you wings? Or maybe someone gave wings to a red bull tin can?
There is a man in Pereira who makes his living by making and selling different sculptures, such as palm trees, cars, helicopters, airplanes, flowers, bikes, etc, but all of them are made with tin cans; he sells all these stuffs in the streets of the city and he never tells you the price, he just asks you to give him what you think his art is worth.
I like how people here is so creative to make a living.

Hay un hombre humilde en Pereira que se gana la vida haciendo diferentes cosas, como palmas, helicópteros, aviones, carros, flores, bicicletas, y otras cosas, pero todo lo hace con latas de bebidas; el vende todas sus creaciones en las calles de la ciudad y nunca da un precio por sus artículos, simplemente pide lo que la gente considere que su arte vale.
Me parece increible y admirable la creatividad que tiene la gente para ganarse la vida.

I haven’t felt completely well today, but I’m much better than yesterday.
I didn’t grab my camera at any time of the day because I was busy, working out, organizing some stuffs and I was hoping on capturing a beautiful sunset today; but at that time I wasn’t at home, I was talking and working with a friends and therefore I completely forgot about looking if the sky had got any colorful. But I made it, I shot this long exposure from my balcony; not sure if this view is getting boring for some of you who have seen it before, but I had never captured the cityscape with the trails of the cars in one photo.

Hoy en todo el día estuve ocupado y despreocupado por la foto, estuve haciendo ejercicio, organizando algunas cosas, y esperaba que hubiera un atardecer bonito; pero a esa hora no estuve en la casa, estaba con una amiga hablando y trabajando un poco, por eso olvidé salir y mirar si el cielo estaba colorido en ese momento del día.
Pero no me quedé varado y tomé la foto de hoy, para algunos, la vista puede ser aburrida porque ya la conocen, pero nunca había hecho una foto desde el balcón del apartamento incluyendo la ciudad y este cruce donde se ven las luces de los carros.

I went to the coffee park cafe with some friends from the university because one of hem was having birthday and she wanted to go there to celebrate. The park was founded in 1995 to pay a homage to the coffee growers that work hard to grow and then export the best coffee in the world;
The park is divided in two parts, the main entrance where there are some buildings housing the museum and exhibitions that detail the history, process and culture of growing and producing coffee; and in the valley beyond that is an amusement park.
These areas are connected by a cable railway, but there is also an ecological path to walk through, where you can find plantations of coffee and different animals running free.
In the amusement park you can find things such as a roller coaster, bumper cars, karts, aquatic mountains, bumper boats, a panoramic wheel, a rapids waterpark, and more attractions; I think going in the rapids more than 8 times made me really sick yesterday and that’s why I didn’t post anything.

Ayer fui al parque del café con unos amigos de la universidad para celebrar el cumpleaños de uno de ellos.
Este parque fue fundado en 1995 por la federación nacional de cafeteros, para rendirle homenaje a los caficultores de la región que trabajan fuertemente para cultivar y exportar el mejor café del mundo.
El parque está dividido en dos partes, arriba por la entrada principal hay unos edificios en los que hay un museo y diferentes exhibiciones con la historia, cultura y proceso del cultuvo y la producción del café; la otra parte es abajo, y ahí se ubica la plaza principal y el parque de diversiones.
Las dos areas están conectadas por un teleférico, pero también se puede llegar de una a la otra por un sendero ecológico en el que se observan diferentes animales nativos de la región en libertad, y cultivos de café.
El el parque de diversiones se encuentran atracciones como la montaña rusa, la montaña acuática, carros y botes chocones, karts, una rueda de la fortuna, los rápidos y muchos más.

Second day of work; I went back to the school to take some new photos, we had a blue sky today and it helped a lot to get better photos of the spaces in the school, last friday the sky was white and that made the photos look a bit dramatic and boring; now I am satisfied with those shots because the school looks vivid and colorful as it is almost every day.
I also had to go up to the top of a hill to make a panorama of the school, and today’s photo is what I saw from the hill, I think that what you see from this place is awesome.

Segundo día en el que trabajo; volví al colegio a tomar nuevas fotos, hoy el cielo estaba despejado y eso ayudó mucho a que las fotos de los espacios fueran más vivas, el viernes pasado el cielo estaba completamente blanco y eoso le daba un toque de drama a las fotos, pero esa no era la intención.
Después, para ahcer una panorámica del colegio tuve que subir a una colina; y allá encontré la foto de hoy, el paisaje que se ve desde el lugar es espectacular y muy típoco de la región.

Hoy apliqué la misma técnica que aprendí del tutorial escrito por uno de mis amigos de flickr y que anteriormente había utilizado para el día 125.
Después de esa foto, el me sugirió hacer gotas más grandes para así obtener un reflejo mucho más claro; éste fue el resultado.

Today I went with my family to eat lunch in a small restaurant in the outskirts of the city; there was a big yard and I found different animals: A squirrel, a turtle and some birds, of course I took a lot of photos of them, but while I was eating, I started taking photos of my little cousin, and I liked this one much more than the shots of animals.

This is a flower that my aunt got a couple of days ago, it is absolutely beautiful and the color is so vivid, what she still doesn’t know, and neither do I, is what kind of flower is it; she’s been asking to different people, even gardener and they have said that they have not seen a flower like this before.

Esta es una flor que le dieron a mi tía hace unos dias, es muy bonita y diferente a todas, además el color que tiene es muy vivo. Lo que no sabemos todavía es qué flor es, ella le ha preguntado a mucha gente, incluso a jardineros, pero todos le dicen que no habían visto una flor así antes.

Hey People!
This has been an awesome day, the first time that I work as a photgrapher.
I was hired by a graphic designer from Medellín (the second biggest city in Colombia) to take the photos of a private school in the outskirts of Pereira to make a new brochure; I learnt a lot from it and it was also an enjoyable time, I shared a bit with the small kids who study there because they all were amazed with the camera and they wanted to get a picture taken.
And this is how the day ended, with a nice reddish sunset.

Ha sido un día excelente, por primera vez trabajé como fotógrafo.
Fui contratado por una diseñadora de Medellín, la segunda ciudad más grande en Colombia, para tomar las fotos de un colegio en las afueras de Pereira porque van a hacer un nuevo brochure; fue una experiencia muy chévere, pude compartir con getne diferente, especialmente con los niños del colegio que estaban maravillados con la cámara, y todos querían que les tomara una foto.
Y así fue como terminó este día, con un atardecer espectacular.

I’ve been awake for almost 34 hours, so I’ll make this brief.
This is probably the most colorful picture I’ve ever done so far, I found an old box with oil paints that was given to me by my aunt -who is an artist- and I think that I was about 10 or 11 years old when I got them.
The paints weren’t used much, I remeber that I painted a pink dolphin and while I did so, I was dreaming about going to see the Amazon -because there are pink dophins-, and I already did, it was an unbelievable experience.
But well, I wasn’t really good at using these paints, I think it requires a lot of practice to get a good result, so as I wasn’t practicing enough I kept them for some years; today I found them and then I decided to use them in a different way, here is the result.

Van más de 34 horas en las que he estado despierto, así que esto va a ser rápido.
Creo que esta es la foto más coloridaque he hecho hasta ahora; encontré una caja vieja con unos oleos que me regaló mi tía -que es artista- cuanod yo tenía unos 10 o 11 años.
Estos oleos no los utilicé mucho, recuerdo que lo único que hice fue un delfín rosado, lo copié de una lámina de chocolatina jet y mientras lo hacía soñaba con ir al Amazonas a conocerlos, y unos 10 años después el sueño se cumplió.
En fin, no era muy bueno con estas pinturas, los oleos requieren de mucha práctica y destreza para obtener un buen resultado, y como no estaba practicando lo suficiente los guardé por varios años; y hoy cuando los encontré, decidí usarlos en mi propio modo. Este es el resultado.

Since yesterday, I’ve been doing a video with my work mates and we’ve been to different places; today we chose as background a guadua forest and when we finished, this little guy stood in one of the branches of the guadua.
This is one of the birds that you see almost every day in this city, the great kisdadee.
It breeds in open woodland with some tall trees, including cultivation and around human habitation, from the southern Texas and northern Mexico, south to Uruguay, Paraguay and central Argentina, and on Trinidad.
The adults are about 22 cm long and weigh 63 g. Their heads are dark brown with a strong white eyestripe and a yellow crown. The upper parts, wings and tail are brown, the underparts are yellow, and the bill is short, black and thick.
The Great Kiskadee is a common, noisy and conspicuous bird. It is omnivorous and hunts like a fly-catcher, waiting on an open perch high in a tree to start flying when there is any insect that it can catch. Because of their opportunistic feeding behavior, they are one of the commonest birds in urban areas in Latin America.

Este es uno de los pájaros más comunes en la ciudad, se le conoce como cristofue o benteveo.
Estan en bosques abiertos de árboles altos, también en la civilización cerca de los humanos; habitan desde el sur de Texas hasta Uruguay, Paraguay, el centro de Argentina y Trinidad.
Los adultos miden aproximadamente 22 centímetros, y pesan 63 gramos; sus cabezas son cafe oscuras con una linea blanca y una corona amarilla. Su cuerpo, alas y cola son cafes, y si pecho amarillo; el pico es negro, corto, y grueso.
Es un ave común y bullosa; casi omnivorta y caza como un mosquero o cazamoscas, esperando a su presa en una rama alta para luego empezar a volar y perseguirla. Son oportunistas en cuanto alimentación, por eso es una de las aves más comunes en las zonas urbanas de Latinoamérica.

Hey!
This holidays have brought me lots of things to do; I thought it was going to be a break, a time to just chill and do nothing, but it hasn’t been like that, I’ve had so many things to do, but all those things have been done with pleasure, so there is nothing to complain at.
This photo was shot outside of the supermarket where I went to buy paint for my room, the white wall already got boring and doesn’t look nice to me, so I think it’s time to change some stuffs; well, I wasn’t talking about my plans for my room, I was supposed to talk about the picture I liked it because of the shapes found in there, and the contrast of the structure with the blue sky.

Estas vacaciones me han dado muchas cosas para ahcer; pensé que iban a ser un tiempo para relajarme haciendo nada, sólo dedidándole tiempo al blog, pero estaba muy equivocado; pero todas las cosas que me han salido han sido hechas con gusto, así que no me puedo quejar en lo absoluto.
La foto de hoy la tomé afuera dle supermercado, a donde fui para comprar la nueva pintura para mi cuarto; el blanco que tiene ya no me parece tan agradable, le quiero poner algo de color para darle vida y ahora que puedo dedicarle ese tiempo, creo que es la hora de hacer muchos cambios; bueno, no se suponía que iba a escribir algo del color de mi cuarto sino sobre la foto; me gustó por todas las formas y lineas que se pueden encontrar, y por el contraste de la estructura con el cielo azul.

Lulo fruit or naranjilla is an exotic fruit that comes from a subtropical perennial plant original from the northwestern of South America. It has many health benefits because it contains lots of Vitamins A, B, C, phosphorus, iron, magnesium, and calcium; is high in antioxidants and fat-free.
This fruit is also supposed to be great for the bones, hair and nails; and also contains some acids that can lower the cholesterol.
The juice made out of this fruit is amazing, the flavor is something that I can’t really describe, but some people think that it’s a mix of rhubarb and lime; the fruit is also used to make ice creams and cocktails.
The lulo is composed by 90% of water, 3,8% of carbohydrates, 1,4% of fiber,3% of sugar and 2,6% of vitamins.

Lulo o naranjilla es una fruta exótica que viene de una planta solanacea originaria del noroeste de Sudamérica. Es muy saludable porque contiene mucha vitamina A, B, C, fósforo, magnesio, hierro y calcio, es alta en antioxidantes y no tiene grasa.
La fruta es buena para los huesos, uñas y pelo; además contiene algunos ácidos que pueden bajar el nivel de colesterol.
El jugo de ésta fruta es delicioso, el sabor es dificil de describir, pero hay quienes dicen que es una mezcla entre lima y ruibarbo; el lulo se usa también para ahcer helados y cocteles.
El lulo está compuesto por 90% de agua, 3,8% de carbohidratos, 1,4% de fibra, 3% de azucar y 2,6% de vitaminas.

Yesterday we went out of the city, celebrating my cousin’s birthday, that’s why I wasn’t able to blog.
It was a nice day, with nice food and great company.
I took about 80 photos of people, food, some small birds, but this one was my favorite; the silhouette of a small wall lizard.
Some facts about lizards:
Most lizards have movable eyelids and can blink.
Lizard skin is covered with scales or plates that are made of keratin, which is the same material as human fingernails are made of.
The wall lizards are prey for birds, snakes, cats and large insects; and are predators for all kinds of insects.
They can lose their tail in order to scape and distract a predator; the tail will grow back but shorter, slimmer and with a different color.
Lizards smell with their tongue; and they shed their skin.

Ayer estuvimos fuera de la ciudad celebrando el cumpleaños de mi primo, fue una fiesta sorpresa, llena de buena comida, excelente compañía.
Tomé casi 80 fotos de gente, comida, animales, algunos pájaros, pero ésta fue mi preferida, la silueta de una lagartija.
Algunos datos sobre las lagartijas:
La mayoría de lagartijas tienen párpados que se mueven y pueden parpadear.
La piel de las lagartijas está cubierta de escamas, que están hechas de keratina, el mismo material del que están hechas las uñas del ser humano.
Las lagartijas son presas de pájaros, gatos, culebras e insectos largos, y sonpredadores de todo tipo de insectos.
Pueden soltar su cola para escapar o distraer a un depredador; su cola volverá a crecer otra vez pero más corta, más delgada, con un color diferente y sin hueso.
Las lagartijas huelen con su lengua; y mudan su piel.

Hey People!
This is a guadua forest in the inside; I had posted a few pictures of structures made with this wood -Day 54- and another one where you can see how it looks like from far away -Day 101-, but last week my friends from Chile were very interested in this material because we saw lots of things made out of it’s wood, such as lamps, chairs, tables, houses, bridges, pencil holders, a toll on the highway, etc; but I realized that I’ve never showed how a guadua forest looks like in the inside.
The guadua is a great element for construction because of its structural properties, like its strength, weight, capacity to absorb energy and the higher bending strength that makes it ideal for seismic resistant constructions.

Este es un guadual visto desde adentro; ya había puesto algunas fotos de estructuras hechas con guadua -Day 54-, y de un guadual desde afuera -Day 101-; pero la semana pasada al ver que mis amigos de Chile se interesaron tanto en la guadua, me dieron ganas de mostrar como es uno de estos bosques desde adentro; a ellos les gustó mucho porque vimos demasiadas cosas hechas con esta amdera, como puentes, casas, sillas, mesas, portalápices, lámparas, etc.
La guadua es un elemento excelente para construcciones por sus propiedades, como la fuera, el peso, la capacidad de absorber energía y su alto grado de flexibilidad que la hace ideal para construcciones sismo resistentes.

I’ve been always interested in woodpeckers because I have seen a lot of them through my whole life, but they are almost always different and I didn’t know much about the until today that this one crossed my way and therefore I shot a picture and came home to read a bit about them; here is what I found out:
In the whole world there are more than 180 species of woodpeckers; none of them can be found in Australia, New Zealand or Madagascar.
Woodpeckers eat fruits, bugs, nuts and seeds.
The largest confirmed woodpecker is the great slaty woodpecker of Southeast Asia, which is about 50 cm long. The pileated woodpecker is the largest North American woodpecker species.
Between feeding, excavating nest cavities and drumming, woodpeckers can peck up to 20 times per second, or a total of 8,000-12,000 pecks per day.
The average life span of a wild woodpecker can last from 4-11 years, depending on the species.
The woodpecker of the photo is an acorn woodpecker, it measures about 21 cm long and weights 85 grams.
The adult male has a red cap starting at the forehead, whereas females have a black area between the forehead and the cap, so the one in the photo is a female.
The breeding habitat is forested areas with oaks in the hills of coastal areas and foothills of California and the southwestern United States south to Colombia.

Siempre me han interesado los pájaros carpinteros porque he visto muchos en toda mi vida, y la mayoría de los que he visto son diferentes; no sabía nada de éstas aves hasta que hoy encontré este, le tome fotos y vine abuscar un poco más de información sobre ellos. Aca les comparto algunos datos que encontré:
En todo el mundo hay más de 180 especies de pájaros carpinteros; ninguno de ellos se encuentra en Australia, Nueva Zelanda y Madagascar.
Se alimentan de frutas, insectos, nueces y semillas.
La especie de carpintero más grande se encuentra en el Sudeste de Asia y mide aproximadamente 50 centímetros de largo.
Entre su alimentación y excavar cavidades para sus nidos, pueden picotear más de 20 veces por segundo, o un total de 8000-12000 veces al día
La vida promedio de un pájaro carpintero está entre los 4 y 11 años dependiendo de la especie.
El pájaro de la foto es llamado carpintero bellotero, mide aproximadamente 21 centímetros y pesa 85 gramos.
El macho tiene una corona roja que empieza desde su frente, mientras que la hembra tiene una parte negra entre la frente y la corona; la de la foto es una hembra.
Su habitat es en areas boscosas con robles que va desde California hasta Colombia.

Hey People!
Today I decided to stay at home and compose something because I had to work a bit and when I work, I usually do it from home.
To me, shooting indoors can be as fun as go out and shoot, but only if I feel creative to composed something decent enough to share, and today I liked the result of my experiment.
This is a macro of some water drops placed on a cd; shooting this wasn’t as easy as it probably looks like because the focus is totally manual, and placing a light to get those colors in the cd is quite a task.
You already know that I like shooting macros, even more if there is any water or fire involved.

Hoy decidí quedarme en la casa y componer algo porque tenía que trabajar un poco, y siempre que lo hago es desde la casa.
Para mi, tomar fotos en espacios cerrados puede ser igual o más divertido que salir en busca de otras cosas, pero sólo si me siento creativo para hacer algo lo suficientemente decente para compartir; y hoy, el resultado de mi experimento me gustó, es un macro de gotas de agua reposando en un cd, el enfoque es totalmente manual, y la iluminación para conseguir estos colores en la superficie del cd fue una aventura.

Hey People!
This is a close-up of a graffiti that I found in the university, I went close to it and shot different photos to get more detail; when I came home I looked at them and realized that 2 of them could be merged in order to create a panorama; it wasn’t my intention at all, but I actually like how it came out; the one who painted is should be proud of this awesome work, the 3-D effect is completely perfect, and the colors and shapes that can be seen in the graffiti are so catchy.
Veronica and Matias left today; we had an awesome week together, time was too short but we made the most of every single minute and that’s why we got to see a lot of this area of the country.

Este es un acercamiento a un graffiti que encontré en la universidad; me acerqué para captar más el detalle y cuando vi las fotos en el computador me di cuenta que podía fusionar dos de ellas para crear una panorámica, nunca fue mi intención pero me gustó como salió; la persona que hizo esto es increiblemente creativa, y le dio un efecto en 3-D perfecto.
Verónica y Matias se fueron hoy en la mañana, tuvimos una semana increible, llena de risas y buenos momentos juntos, aunque el tiempo fue poco aprovechamos cada segundo al máximo y por eso pudimos ver mucho de esta región del país.

Yesterday, when I was about to post my day 152 the power went off because a thunderstorm started here; I swear I never saw so many lightning in my entire life, and it did last for more than one hour.
I seized the moment to take some long exposure photos hoping to get a lightning in any of them; and after seeing the result, I decided to change the photo that I was going to upload just to show you the result of my first attempt of shooting to lightning strikes.
I found some interesting facts about thunders:
The Earth experiences an average of 25 million lightning strikes during 100000 thunderstorms in one year.
The energy contained in a lightning strike can power a 100 Watt light bulb for about 90 days.
An average instance of lightning lasts about a quarter of a second and consists of 3-4 strikes.
A thunder can be heard from about 19,3 kilometers from its starting point.
Lightning bolts travel at speeds of up to 96560 kilometers per second.
About 200 people are killed by lightning in the United States every year.
The average length of a single lightning bolt is 3218-4828 meters.
A Lightning can strike the same location many times; “lightning never strikes twice” is just a myth.
The chance to be killed by lightning is 1 in 2.000.000. You have the same chance dying from falling out of bed

Ayer cuando iba a escribir mi post del día 152 se fue la luz porque hubo una tormenta eléctrica; era increible la cantidad de rayos que se podían ver y escuchar, nunca había visto tantos.
En ese momento, decidí intentar hacer varias fotos, todas de larga exposición para intentar captar alguno de los rayos, y al final, después de ver el resultado, decidí reemplazar la foto que tenía por esta, me parece mucho más interesante mostrar el resultado de mi primer intento en captar rayos.
Aca van algunos datos muy interesantes sobre los rayos y truenos.
La tierra recibe alrededor de unos 25 millones de rayos durante 100000 tormentas electricas en un año.
La energía contenida en un rayo puede prender un bombillo de 100 watts por unos 90 dias.
En promedio, la duración de un rayo es de un cuarto de segundo.
Un trueno puede ser escuchado desde 19,3 kilómetros de su punto de inicio.
Los rayos viajan a una velocidad de 96560 kilómetros por segundo.
Alrededor de 200 personas mueren al año en Estados Unidos a causa de los rayos.
La longitud promedio de un rayo está entre los 3,218-4,828 kilómetros.
El “Un rayo nunca cae dos veces en el mismo lugar” es un mito.
La probabilidad de morir por un rayo es de 1 entre 2000000; que es la misma de morir por caer de la cama.

Everyday is better than the last, and we’ve had amazing days lately!
Salento, Circasia and Filandia are the places where we’ve been today.
They are small towns located in the center of the coffee region and they offer lots of things to see; Salento is the oldest town in the coffee area, so when you arrive there, you feel like you have travelled back in time.
These 3 towns have main squares called “Plaza de Bolivar” which are surrounded by colorful houses, churches and different stores where you can see a huge variety of artisan work; there are also viewpoints in each town, from the one in Salento you have an excellent panoramic view over Cocora valley; if the day is clear, from the viewpoint in Filandia you can see an awesome landscape composed by lots of green hills with different tones, mountains in the background, and the main cities of the coffee area, Pereira, Armenia and Manizales; it’s truly awesome that they can be seen from a place which is not that close to any of them.
I promised that this week you were going to get to see a lot of the coffee area, that’s why I’ve been posting more than one picture.
We still have one day left and we will make the most of it.
Now I’m very tired and I’ll go to rest, but wish you a great week.

Cada día se pone mejor que el anterior, y eso es mucho decir porque hemos pasado increible!
Salento, Circasia y Filandia son los lugares que hemos visitado hoy.
Son pueblos pequeños que se localizan en el centro de la zona cafetera y en ellos hay muchas cosas para ver; Salento es el más antiguo en toda la región, y al llegar allá casi se puede sentir que se ha viajado atras en el tiempo.
Los tres pueblos tienen plazas proncipales, “La Plaza de Bolivar”, que esta rodeadas por casas muy coloridas, iglesias y tiendas donde se puede encontrar una variedad gigante de artesanias; también tienen miradores con unas vistas espectaculares; en el de Salento se puede ver una panorámica espectacular del valle del Cocora; y si el cielo está despejado, desde el mirador de Filandia se puede apreciar una vista espectacular, un paisaje compuesto por muchísimas colinas con diferentes tonos de verde, montañas al fondo, y las principales ciudades del eje cafetero, Pereira, Armenia y Manizales; es increible que haya un punto desde donde se puedan observar las tres al tiempo.
Prometí que esta semana iba a mostrar mucho más de la región cafetera, y por eso es que ultimamente he puesto más de una foto en cada post.
Todavía nos queda un día juntos, y lo vamos a aprovechar al máximo, por eso me voy a descansar, ha sido un día largo y estoy muy cansado, les deseo una feliz semana!

Hey People!
Just now I realize this is day 150; perhaps I should have planned something special for today, but seriously, I didn’t realize about it until now.
Anyways, it’s too late to complain, and this day has been seriously awesome and very special; Sara came to Pereira to meet Veronica, Matias and I, and it’s been really great spending time together again.
We have been just talking, hanging out, eating a lot and enjoying the short time that she is gonna stay; we have been also very lucky because so many nice animals typical from this area have crossed our ways; there you see a blue crowned motmot eating some plantain.
The sunset was really beautiful, the shapes of the clouds were amazing!
Maybe I didn’t plan day 150 with something special, but it was!

Hasta ahora me doy cuenta que hoy es el día 150; depronto debí haber planeado algo especial para este día, pero sólo hasta ahora caigo en cuenta sobre ésta cifra.
De todos modos, ya es muy tarde para quejarme por eso, y para ser honesto, este día ha sido espectacular y muy especial; Sara llegó a Pereira a reunirse con Vero, Matias y conmigo, y ha sido muy chévere pasar tiempo juntos otra vez.
Hemos estado hablando, saliendo, visitando diferentes lugares, comiendo mucho, en general, aprovechando el poco tiempo que vamos a tener juntos; además hemos tenido mucha suerte por encontrarnos con animales tan típicos de esta región, como el barranquero que hay en la foto comiendo plátano.
El atardecer también estuvo espectacular, los colores y las formas de las nubes eran increibles.
Tal vez no pude planear nada especial para el día 150 , pero lo fue!

Hey People!
In our second day in La Florida everything went pretty well, we woke up and had lunch early so that we could go out and see different birds and have more time to do more things; it was succesful, we went for a walk, saw birds, butterflies,insects, a wild horse and geese.
Later on, we ended up swimming in the river and just relaxing; it was very nice, the sun was shining and that river is absolutely clean, it comes directly from the mountains and there is nothing on its way to La Florida that can make the water dirty, you can even drink it.
Tomorrow we are going to meet Sara, another friend who was also an exchange student with us. I think it’s going to be really great to meet this people again, we really are like a family and because of the distance we can’t see one another that much.

En nuestro segundo día en La Florida nos levantamos y desayunamos temprano para así poder tener más tiempo de salir, ver pájaros que usualmente se ven con más facilidad en horas de la mañana,y hacer más cosas, fue perfecto porque alcanzamos a ver varios pájaros, mariposas, insectos, un caballo salvaje y gansos.
Al final, terminamos metidos en el rio, nadando y relajándonos un rato.
El agua del rio es muy fria pero estaba haciendo buen clima, con mucho sol; el agua es totalmente limpia, viene directo de las montañas y no hay nada en el camino hasta La Florida que pueda quitarle su pureza, es tan limpia que hasta se puede tomar.
Mañana nos vamos a reunir con Sara, una amiga que también estuvo de intercambio con nosotros; estoy seguro de que vamos a tener un excelente fin de semana, va a ser muy chévere encontrarnos con ella otra vez, todos somos como una familia que desafortunadamente no se puede reunir constantemente por la distancia.

I’m back in Pereira, and I’m still with my friends, which makes me very happy.
These days we’ve been in “La Florida”, which is one of the places that I like the most because there is a lot of nature around, there is always something new to see and to discover, and that makes it a great place to rest and feel relaxed.
This is a photo that I shot when we were going back to my uncle’s house from a long walk that we took; if you like it, you might understand why I love this place.

Hey People!
This is the beginning of an amazing week.
My friend Veronica from Chile, and her boyfriend Matias came to Colombia for a visit; I met her when we were doing exchange in Denmark and we became friends there, we used to hang out a lot and all the exchange student in Fyn, the island where we lived, were like one family; I’m so happy to have them here, it feels so good to see her after 2 and a half years and to meet Matias.
They arrived early in the morning, and we came home to eat some breakfast, rest and talk for a while; in the afternoon we visited the zoo and took lots of photos; we were so close to an elephant, about just 2 meters away from it and there was only a small ditch separating us, not even a fence; and we were allowed to feed a hippopotamus, it was so so nice.
Tomorrow we are going to take a short trip and we will be away from the computer, internet, iPods, cellphones and everything, so I’ll be back in a couple of days.

Este es el inicio de una semana espectacular!
Mi amiga Verónica y su novio Matias, los dos de Chile vinieron a Colombia de visita; conocí a Vero cuando los dos estabamos d eintercambio en Dinamarca, nos hicimos buenos amigos y nos veíamos mucho, todos los de intercambio que viviamos en Fyn, una isla de Dinamarca eramos como una familia; estoy muy feliz de tenerlos aca y de volver a ver a Vero después de casi dos años y medio, y de conocer a Matias.
Llegaron muy temprano en la mañana y vinimos a la casa a desayunar, descansar y hablar un rato; en la tarde fuimos al zoologico, tomamos muchas fotos, estuvimos muy cerca de un elefante, mas o menos a dos metros, y lo único que nos separaba era una zanja pequeña, ni siquiera una cerca, además nos dejaron alimentar a un hipopótamo, fue muy chévere!
Mañana nos vamos a un pequeño viaje y vamos a estar lejos de los computadores, celulares, ipods, internet; así que en unos dias regreso con las fotos de cada día en el que no estuve.

Close to my house, there are so many places where people can buy coffee, of course, I’m in the colombian coffee area and the best coffee in the world grows here; but there is a place that I consider special and completely different to the other cafes; the owner is a young man who sells the main product of this area in one of the most traditional things that we have. Yes, his coffee store is a willys jeep; he makes and serves the coffee from the back of his car, which is nearly every day parked in the centre of the city.
I think it’s quite an innovative concept, and I really wanted to share this with you.

Cerca a mi casa hay muchos lugares donde se puede comprar buen café, obvio, estoy en la región cafetera de Colombia, y el mejor café del mundo se da aca, pero hay un sitio que es especial y diferente a los cafes tradicionales; el dueño es un hombre joven que vende el principal producto de ésta región utilizando uno de los elementos más típicos que tenemos.
Si, su tienda es un jeep; el hace y sirve el café en la parte de atras de su carro que casi todos los dias se parquea en el mismo punto del centro de la ciudad.
Me parece un concepto diferente a todos y bastante creativo, por eso quería compartirlo con ustedes.

This week is going to be amazing! I have so many things to do and therefore, I won’t be able to post anything else after tomorrow, but I’ll be back with different pictures from the next days and I’m sure that through them you’ll get to see a lot of the colombian coffee area.
This is my finding for today, some colorful lockers in the arts faculty of the university. The colors immediately caught my attention and I had to start shooting.

Esta semana va a ser increible! Tengo muchos planes y muchas cosas que ahcer, por eso, a partir del miércoles no voy a poder escribir ni poner fotos, pero cuando esté de regreso me desatrazo de cada uno de los dias en los que no voy a estar, y estoy seguro que con esas fotos van a conocer mucho de la región cafetera de Colombia.
Esto es lo que encontré hoy, unos lockers pintados en la facultad de artes de la universidad; los colores y la textura me gritaban, así que no pude resistirme y empecé a tomarle fotos.

This has been such a relaxing day: swimming, taking photos and walking.
In one of my walks I saw this iguana; I’m really glad that lately I’ve been changing a lot, because I used to be extremely afraid of them and the first thing that I would have done was run away, instead doing it, I started to get closer slowly so that it was not going to get scared and leave; I went on my knees in order to get a better angle and when I realized, I was too close to it, less than one meter and it was staying still.
I’ve been liking these animals a lot, I’m a big fan of their scales and how they kind of create a mini universe.
Some facts about these reptiles:
Iguanas are herbivores and therefore they have to be fed only with a vegetarian diet. They shouldnt eat any kind of animal protein, only some wild species can eat insects. They like a big variety of fruits that include strawberries, melons, green beans and peppers.
The iguanas can be aggressive during the mating season, that’s why they should be left alone with their partners until the season, that lasts 3 months is over.
Iguanas can be as small as 35 centimeters and as large as 2,20 meters, and weigh up to 8 kilograms.
They have sharp teeth and long tails to defend themselves from another animals.

Hoy ha sido un día muy relajante, estuve andando, tomando fotos y caminando mucho.
En una de mis caminatas me crucé con ésta iguana; me alegra haber cambiado, porque de lo contraqrio, lo primero que habría hecho habría sido correr por el miedo que les tenía, pero como ese miedo ya no existe, empecé a acercarme lentamente para no asustarla; despues de un rato, me arrodillé para captar un mejor ángulo, la iguana seguía quieta y luego me di cuenta que estabamos muy cerca, a menos de un metro de distancia el uno del otro.
Estos animales me encantan, me parecen misteriosos, no se como pueden correr tan rápido y pasar tanto tiempo debajo del agua; además me fascina la textura de sus escamas.
Algunos datos sobre estos reptiles:
Las iguanas son animales hervíboors, por eso deben mantener una dieta estríctamente vegetariana; no deben consumir ningún tipo de proteina proveniente de otro animal, aunque hay una especie muy exótica de ellas que come insectos. A las iguanas les gusta una gran variedad de frutas, que incluye las fresas, los melones, ríjoles verdes y lis pimentones.
Durante la época de apareamiento se ponen muy agresivas, por eso es mejor dejarlas solas hasta que la temporada, que dura 3 meses, termine.
Las iguanas pueden medir entre 35 centímetros hasta 2,20 metros, y llegan a pesar 8 kilos.
Tienen dientes muy afilados y colas muy largas que usan como mecanismo de defensa contra otros animales.

To me, there is no better way to test a new lens than going out to look for birds.
Today I had the oportunity to see a very small and coloful bird that I’d been looking for; but it’s so small and the green feathers of its wings allow it to camouflage with the tree.
It is known as “Tangara Gyrola”; these birds are about 14 centimeters long, weigh 19.5 grams and can be found in South America, Trinidad, Panama and Costa Rica; they tend to inhabit in forests or humid areas.
These are social birds, usually are found in pairs; they eat fruits and sometimes insects that they take from the underside of branches.

Para mi no hay una mejor forma de probar un nuevo lente que ir a buscar aves.
Hoy encontré un pequeño pájaro que había estado buscando hace un tiempo, pero por su tamaño y por el verde de sus alas se hacía muy dificil porque se camuflan en los árboles.
Se le conoce como tángara cabeciroja, mide aproximadamente unos 14 centímetros, pesa 19,5 gramos y se encuentra en Sudamérica, Panamá, Costa Rica y Trinidad; tienden a encontrarse en los bosques y en las zonas más húmedas.
Son aves muy sociales, casi siempre se encuentran en pareja o pequeños grupos; comen frutas y algunas veces insectos que capturan de la parte inferior de las ramas.

Hey Everyone!
Today it’s the 29th of february, the day that only exists every four years.
My cousin wrote to me yesterday, pointing at this is the day that “doesn’t exist” in my project, and he suggested me to do something that symbolizes either infinity or nothing; it was a hard task because this week is full of exams and assignments, but I decided to take the challenge. His suggestion kind of kept me awake last night, I was thinking about something that could represent infinity or nothing, and finally I figured something out.
I thought about posting just a white square, but to me that’s a cliché and definitely ain’t the kind of photography that I’ve been doing, sure it could be something interesting but is more philosophical.
This is my interpretation of infinity, in my opinion the bokeh is something that goes beyond what we see, something that could reach infinity; there are lots of shapes on it that show nothing but at the same time create a powerful atmosphere.

29 de febrero, el día que sólo existe cada cuatro años.
Mi primo me escribió un correo anoche, recordándome que éste es el día “que no existe en mi proyecto”, y me sugirió a ahcer algo que simbolizara el infinito o la nada. Fue una tarea dificil porque esta semana está llena de examenes y estudio; pero acepté la sugerencia y me reté a hacerlo. Estuve toda la noche pensando en qué podía simbolizar la nada o el infinito, pero al final, algo se me ocurrió.
Al principio pensé en poner una foto completamente en blanco, pero me parece muy típico, y ese no es el tipo de fotos que he venido haciendo, puede ser interesante pero no tiene nada que ver con mi estilo, y me parece además algo más filosófico.
Esta fue mi interpretación de la nada y el infinito, para mi, el bokeh es algo que va más alla de lo que podemos ver, algo que podría llegar al infinito; tiene muchas formas, es nada, y a la vez crea una atmóspera potente sin ser algo definido.

Hey People!
In Colombia we don’t have a proper spring, but there are months where the trees start blooming and give us a kind of spring feeling that doesn’t last as long as the normal spring would last, but is a change that makes the city look more beautiful.
This tree is called Guayacan, the scientific name is “Tabebuia chrysantha” and it blooms with yellow flowers in the end of the dry season. The flowers are from 2.5 to 10 centimeters wide; and the tree grows from 5 to 50 meters.
The colors of the flower depend on the specie of the tree, you can find white, pink, magenta, yellow or red flowers; it doesn’t last very long because the flowers start falling on the ground quickly, and they kind of form a carpet which looks very beautiful and in the evenings gives a kind of european atmosphere.

This tree is the national tree of Venezuela and it’s flower is the national flower of Brazil.

En Colombia no tenemos estaciones como tal, pero hay meses donde los árboles florecen y dan una sensación de primavera, que aunque no dura los 3 meses que dura ésta estación, le da un cambio a la ciudad y la hace ver mucho más bonita.
Uno de estos árboles se conoce como Guayacán, y normalmente florece en el final de la temporada de sequía. Crecen entre 5 y 50 metros, y sus flores están varían entre los 2,5 y 10 centímetros de ancho.
Los colores de las flores dependen de la especie; hay unos que dan flores amarillas, otros rosadas, magenta, lila o rojas; éste espectáculo no dura mucho tiempo porque las flores empiezan a caer rápidamente en el suelo, pero ahí forman una especie de alfombra o tapete que crean una atmósfera muy europea.
El sur de la Florida en Estados Unidos, México, las islas del Caribe y Sudamérica son los lugares donde comunmente se encuentran estos árboles.
El guayacán es el árbol nacional de Venezuela, y su flor es la flor nacional de Brasil.

This is a macro-sunday.
When I was eating luch, and I poured soda in my glass, I observed the small bubbles in there and I decided to see how a picture of them would come out.
Focus is really hard, it was to be manual because of the small size of the bubbles.
This bubbles are CO2 encased in the soda bottle, when you start pouring it the pressure change makes the gas to get excited and it forms the small bubbles. If the soda bottle is left open for a while, the carbon atoms will go away and the soda will be completely flat.

Hoy fue un domingo de macros.
Cuando estaba almorzando, serví gaseosa en un vaso de vidrio y vi todas las burbujas que se formaban; decidí ver como podía salir una foto de ellas.
El enfoque fue dificil, fue totalmente manual porque las burbujas son extremadamente pequeñas y el enfoque automático no alcanza a captarlas.
Estas burbujas son CO2 encerrado en la botella de gaseosa, cuando se empieza a servir, el cambio de presión excita las partículas del gas y por eso se forman las burbujas. Si la botella se daja abierta por un rato, los átomos de carbono desaparecen y la gaseosa se va a ver totalmente plana.
